Academy status handed to Pompey

Pompey youngsters will now be able to play against the countries best after the Premier League gave the club Academy status.

As a result Pompey should be able to start attracting top young talent, instead of losing them to the likes of the lot down the road, as we will now be able to offer these talented youngsters the opportunity of playing against the best in youth age groups in the Premier Academy League.

It is not just a case of the Premier League saying 'okay then, you are given Academy status', it has to be earned with certain criteria having to be met, such as an indoor training pitch to a specific size - although this is something we do not have now, we will do at he new training ground in Titchfield, but until this time we are able to use the facilities at Priory School, which are up to the required standard.

Paul Hart - who is a genius when it come to working with youngsters - and his team have worked very hard to gain this, are now very much looking forward to the rewards it should bring the club, with hopefully plenty of our own talent produced in the coming years.

PLAY UP POMPEY!

This is fantastic news, some of the best of the summer, welldone to all involved. Takes alot of graft to get us to this point when you consider where we were a couple of seasons ago. Hey! we're starting to feel like a proper club now lol

sorry to pompeyrug but i read your 3rd paragraph and it is. I am a bit cynical about this. we have not reached what other prem clubs are doing and pompey were previousley given an extension to achieve academy status which you should remember is a premier league mandatory obligation. The FA needed to grant it to pompey for their own credibility. whilst i dont doubt the efforts of Paul Hart, we were never not going to get it. it is only time that will tell but for the moment we need to see this for what it is a paper exercise, which as a club pompey need to back up.

god i sound like a miserable old victor

i am hopefully, even if we were given a helping hand by the premier league to help them, that we will back it up and our academy will back it up... with a proper set up in place people that were slipping through the net before, often to end up down the road, will not any longer...

Let's go round up the kids of tomorrow & stop them going to the scum.
