Pompey boys - Arnold Mvuemba

The fifth signing of the summer came on 3rd July when Arnold Mvuemba made his switch from Rennes to Pompey a permanent one for a bargain fee of less than £1m.

His career started with Rennes in 2003, his only club until January '07 when he came to Fratton on loan. Up until that time he had played 33 matches, scoring once.

Although we did not see a lot of him when he arrived on loan during the latter part of the 2006/07 season, I saw more than enough of him to be convinced that he has everything needed to be a star.

He was voted the player of the tournament as he starred for France at Euro 2005 at U21 level, with him tipped as having the ability to make the step up to the senior side. So even though he has not managed this yet, he has every chance, which makes his signing at less than £1m even more of a steal.

He can do the defensive side of the game and is not afraid to get 'stuck in', but can also attack, showing his eye for a killer pass and the finish of a seasoned striker - as we saw against Watford last season.

A fine signing, with a very big future ahead of him, our bargain buy of the summer.

I have said before on here, chuffed to bits with this signing, has everything he needs to be a star for us, lets hope he's given the chance to show it.

i did not really see alot of him in the game with fulham after he came on, but thought he was very impressive as a 2nd half sub against yeovil... he is a quality footballer that will do very well for us...
