Sol Campbell talk not a surprise

Sol Campbell talk not a surprise

The media is full of stories that Sol Campbell could leave Pompey - and he will, but not yet.

There have been links with Villarreal after he is claimed to have said in the Daily Express 'I don't think Portsmouth will be my last club'.

As much as I would like Campbell to finish his career with Pompey my thinking has for a long time been that I believe he will see out his contract before moving on next summer for one last shot with a European team, then head off to America - if not heading straight to the States.

He has also spoken about further improvement and money needed to be spent for the club to 'move in the right direction', but I would think the changes we have made and £20m plus spent this summer so far is not a bad start really is it.

Yep, in some cases he is right but the steps forward we have made in the past 12 months or so have been amazing, with further development plans very much in place, but not all of these things can happen over night.

Missing out on Europe last season was a major blow for Campbell, who has not really taken this well, but he is not really saying things that make him sound like a man that is looking to move away just yet, nor is he showing the attitude of one either as he was very put out when he was taken off on Tuesday after a man of the match showing.

He is more involved with what is going on off the field too, so I cannot see a reason for him to go just yet.

Players of his quality will attract the attentions of others, but he still has a year on his contract and I would expect him to see this out - then I still think he will leave when it ends but not before.

the key is Europe, Sol still thinks we need that striker and another winger, if he sees a good start he will stay. I dont think Vallareal are big enough for him.

Not sure wether he will go or not, He seems to be asking for our future plans to be brought forward to today. Nice but not reality, We as a club are making huge strides in all directions. Sachas plans are coming to fruition, quicker than i expected. We are spending money, Plans have been submitted, Youth set up is being put in place, Short term improvements to the ground, Media coverage has been extended with, purchase of Radio stations and Broadband tv. Worldwide profile raised, High profile clothing contract taken on. New admin offices, new high tech ticketing system employed. Just how much has Sascha done in his short Tenure?...Plenty. We're trying Sol, just look around you!

the stadium might be in for a hiccup though, most people anticipated half the dockyard being closed and a stadium being built in its place, we know now that cant happen so i think there will be changes.

we cannot really offer much more off the field than we are doing are we, so like russ says how we perform and if we make it into europe could determine if he stays or goes next season... you would think the lure of pompey's first season in europe would prove too much for him to resist wouldn't you? if we do miss out we wont see another him back in a pompey shirt the following season...

well from the quotes all we need to do is tart up the showers in the changing room for him and he will be happy lol. In all seriousness though when you think of all the changes pentonpompey has mentioned in such a short period it is quite amazing!

Northampton (h) - Securing home advantage?

Some could view this as a 'dead rubber!' It isn't as Champions Northampton will want to end on a high and Pompey will want 'an advantage' against Plymouth in the play-offs. Right?

Pompey MotM at Hartlepool

Pompey went into the penultimate game with a slim chance of a top 3 finish. A 2-0 win at Hartlepool saw the Blues do what we needed but wins for others ended those chances.

An emergency loan arrival of a goalie has been ruled out by the Football League but this doesn't mean a free agent cannot be signed by Pompey should a suitable option be found?
