A striker on loan in January wanted

A big yes is what I say to the idea of getting in a new striker on loan in January! Not my vote, yours - although these findings from Lysimachus' poll are thoughts I could share depending on circumstances.

My thinking is it depends on what happens for the rest of this transfer window as to whether or not a striker comes in in January? Should we get a non African the chances are we will not need another striker even when we lose several to the African Nation.

Someone pointed out that Benjani will not be going away with Zimbabwe, as they will not quality, so that still leaves us him and David Nugent, along with a quite probable arrival soon, should he also be of non African decent, or not participating - not forgetting that Niko Kranjcar could be an attacking option, then we should be okay.

It would also depend on how the strikers are performing, if they are firing - those that will be left behind included - it could disrupt things getting someone else in?

A loan signing might not hurt, but if factors are in our favour we could do without. If we did though although it should be with the view to a permanent deal it might not be a bad thing if it was just a short term thing, a la Henrik Larsson at United last season.

What the poll asked - When the African Nations drains our squad, should we loan a striker for the rest of the season?

How you voted - Yes 65%, No, Nugent can manage 13%, Yes, but not a striker who will sign permanently 11%, Just no 11%

Current Poll - As the season gets closer we start thinking more and more about the Derby game and who will and will not play.

We stay on the striker theme as Et_tu_Pompeii asks the question 'what pair of strikers will start up front against Derby County for the first match of the season?' Let the poll do the talking before we do when it finishes.

Come xmas we will have a fair idea as to what is & isn't workong. The African cup will ahve an obvious effect & no doubt we will react to that. Why can't FIFA ask for this tournament to be every 4 years rather than every 2?

I'd rather we sign someone else non-African permanently to ensure we're not left too short by the AN Cup.
Tantona
I think storagematt if it is at chrimbo we find out what works it will be too late. I agree with tantona in that we are better to buy than loan, loanee's leave you with a hole to fill when they go back. I am given to understand the ANC was why Sven snapped up Giovanni so quickly. You have to think that harry has thought it out more than just bidding for the want away NOT Defoe. I guess he feels Kanoute and mali will not inconvenience us for very long or perhapse that just leaves us with an attempt on Marvin Deadwood

Could've made than an option. Sorry.
Lysimachus
even if we dont sign another striker i think we could have enough in benjani, nuggent and kranjcar to see us through for a month or so... if defoe is not playing much come january he will be off, if he is it will be here so long as we are doing well...
