Kanoute still being chased by Pompey

Pompey's 'renewed' efforts to sign Fredi Kanoute will have to be at a higher price than the £5.5m offer already 'rejected'. But Harry Redknapp and Pompey will not give up in their quest yet.

Redknapp has tracked the striker for most of the summer, but has had little luck in adding him to the squad as yet, although others - strikers - have arrived dispelling any worries that we might be left with what we had.

The belief, only a couple of weeks ago was Sevilla would not let him go for anything less than £10m, it is now claimed they will not let him go for anything less than £8m so this 'will not let him go for anything less than' amount is dropping.

Paying out a large sum for a player who is almost 30 and not exactly prolific will ensure Sevilla does not get the extortionate amount they are looking for though.

Some rumours circulating are that Pompey have offered Lomana LuaLua as part of the deal, so if this is true then as much as I would like to see LuaLua stay, if it is best for everyone for him to go then my thinking is this is a deal that is still very likely to happen.

Should we end up signing Kanoute, even if we keep LuaLua, we would still be left light on attacking options when the African Nations comes around, so another non African could still arrive, if not now in January - unless Redknapp feels, as I think he could do, that Niko Kranjcar could fill the void for a few weeks, if not as an out and out attacker as an attacker just dropping off David Nugent.

Whatever happens on the Kanoute trail, I feel sure that we have not yet seen the end of our summer spending.

I think once a deal with Lua Lua has been done and Andy Cole moving on the the monies generated Fees/Wages are likely to be used to bring Kanoute in.

Not for £8m.
storagematt
I agree, 8 million is far too much, especially now we've already got Nuge and Utaka in (yes I know Utaka isn't necessarily a 'primary' striker, but it sounds like he can play there effectively enough when required).
Tantona
8 mil is crazy!!, hes had a stint in the prem, & going on that, I dont know what all the fuss is about. Im not saying Freddies not a good player, but still, 5-6 mil would be a max bid in my book.
CharlieChimes
I totally understand hes being playing extreamly well in spain, but this is a different leauge, we sould be thankfull weve seen him in the prem, it can give us a little insight into how good hes going to be...anyone know how old he is??
CharlieChimes
He's 29......definitely a risk for the kind of bid they're demanding.
Tantona
Age is no barrier to talent look at Sir Teddy, Kanoute is still quick with ability to score spectacular and simple goals. We need a striker to get 20 if we are to improve on last seasons performance. If Cole, Griffin and O'Brien have to go plus one of our better players i.e. Davis then so be it, but Kanoute would be a great signing for us and make all the difference. However we either meet the price or move on, we do not want to be in an auction for him and miss other targets.

"age is no barrior to talent" - just look at kanu. 1 year older, and as fit as a fiddle...or not. He has had 1 good season in all his career, the rest has been mediocre, and now, he is probably passing his best. Save the cash, and get the yak!!
pompeycarpet
yak doesnt want to come, he wants his share of 12 mill, as for kanoute not being worth 8mill (probably they want 6.5-7 mill). kamara went for 5.5 and the reality the issue is irrelevant as Owenspompey posting above really points out. Stop Fkng around agree or move on .
russellm
anyway i feel a swap deal for LuaLua plus 3.5 mill could be in the offing
russellm
I think as i've said all along that he will be a great signing. Pace, skill, eye for goal. Don't get too caught up in his so called mediocure scoring record in his last stint in the Prem. Spain will have given him a new dimension to his game. Plus the added bonus of all that European football. I can't wait, and pray he signs. What an attack we will possess, more than enough trouble for most of the prem sides. I also see that Lua will possibly be offered as bait, as they seem to have made noises about him for a little while now, that and 3-4mil should do it, me thinks.

I think kanoute WILL come,I think Harry will not Rush into this deal and will wait until the price suits him-which may include a lua swap, he maight also go for Camara...strngely though..I keep having a little hunch he might have a nibble at Wigan for Baynes..but that doesnt look too likely in real time. I Think Russellm is on the button with this one

PS, hey fellas I want to send Penton a message can some one tell me how to do this..i can only return messages to those who have sent me first
plymouth graham
I think they have someone in find to fill the number 9 shirt, and i agree it could be Camara, however i have a feeling Harry would take Zamora if he could get him for a bargain price, and Kanoute if the price drops to 5 million plus Lua Lua.
Owenspompey
Hey Plymouth, ask rug for my email address, suppose thats an easy way...I know that'swhat he's there for, but it would solve the problem
pentonpompey
I meant to say that's NOT what he's there for!!!...DOH!!!
pentonpompey
cheeky ******** - that's what i am there for... i know what you meant tho :) graham i will private message you now with penton's email...
