Pompey no.9 still up from grabs

The squad numbers for this season have been announced with the new boys claiming their numbers, with some of the old guard reshuffling.

Sylvain Distin gets no.15, Hermann Hreidarsson no.7, Sulley Muntari no.11, Martin Cranie no.20, Arnold Mvuemba no.18, David Nugent no.10 and John Utaka no.17.

With Nugent taking no.10 for this season, having warn this last season Lauren switches to no.4.

It could be thought that with the no.5 being vacated by Andy O'Brien, who now takes no.33, that maybe another defender might arrive, but this is unlikely.

However the much coveted no.9, warn previously by Svetoslav Todorov remains unclaimed, so my thinking is we are still quite likely see another striker arrive - and I do not mean simply Kanu re arriving.

i predict 5 this year, and i am even going to stick my neck out and say it will Man Utd, Chelsea, Liverpool and Spurs ahead of us. I dont think Arsenal will gel that quickly, and finish in 6th. Now i'm off to hide behide a wall, before i get bricked and stoned for being dence lol

Spurs always flatter to deceive Midge, they'll end up underachieving as is the norm. Anywhere from 5-11 for us I reckon.....I really think this depends how well we go in our tough opening fixtures.

im going for the top 6, whereabouts in this top 6 will most likely depend on how we start like Tantona says... 1st, 2nd and 3rd are prob safe, with arsenal and spurs expected to battle out 4th and 5th, so that leaves us 6th... altho if we perform away as well as at home and get in this final striker in that will take the no.9 shirt - as i think we will - then if we do start well altho people may think im crazy then i will not role out 4th, not that i am expecting this by anymeans... minimum we need to do this season is at least equal last season, but tbh i think we we go better learning lessons from last year...

OK so thought i was gonna get stoned by 5th, but pompeyrug has gone even better with a possible 4th. I love seeing people being optomistic, its so much better than the normal pesimists lol. So i think i'll see your 4th, and raise you by 1. to 3rd... yes we are gonna finish 3rd, any advances? lol

i like to live live danerously but i think i will have to fold at your call of 3rd Midge :) last season i was not even thinking about relegation, this season im not even thinking about anything lower than the top half of the table... god, i still have to pinch myself sometimes to believe things are real and the club actually is where they are and are still moving forward! those very dark days in the past are not forgotten and never will be, but they seem a million miles away now...

well, im thinking about anywhere between 3rd and 13th :) - liverpool and arsnal could both have shockers, although villa, newcastle, everton, totenham, (man city?) (fulham? have to laugh!), (reading?), and a suoruise package (sunderland?) could all do well, and whilst bolton wont be the force they were before, im not righting thm off! and if we then have a poor season, fail to get any points from the first 6 games, and lack momentum, and maybe add a few injurys, we could have a very poor season. But the one thing i dont have us doing, is going down! (touch wood)

err, chris, the chances would be quite low! we would be looking for a NON african playor to fill the shirt when the ACoN comes along. and if you want to insult us, which club do you support, and then we can rip YOU to pieces, rather than just sitting here explaining why your wrong...or are you to afraid to do that?

whats insulting about that ? maybe you want it swept under the carpet ! i support football in general, clubs i have some admiration for are, Villa cos MON is a top manager, man utd, cos ferguson is likewise, accrington stanley who have had some great ideas to get people involved in their club, huddersfield town for their stance on agents, everton beacuase of moyes handling of the small club jibe by benitez last season, queen of the south in scotland for historical reasons of my own. Portsmouth of old b4 the money men got hold of it, crewe for the steady stream of talent they produce, i could go on, but hey that should be enough amunition for you.

Whilsy you seem like a genuine football fan, many who caome on here, are not, OR, are here to spite pompey. If your wondering whats insulting, it was the way that you hinted we were a team of all african playors - which we are not! Sorry for the confusion, and no, i DONT intend to rip you to pieces.

Martin O'Neill decent manager, top no way, ferguson is the top man with the chosen one and Wenger up there with him I have never heard of a bloke who follows so many teams, it must mean that you always get a half decent weekend, even if a result goes wrong. Welcome to our website mate and i hope we see a lot of contributions from you. We are dead precious about our club, as we have all been so much in the last few years and we all care what goes on, and what people say about our team. We may not be one of the big Premiership clubs, but we pride ourselves on our passion for all things Pompey.
