Utaka gets his work permit

Utaka gets his work permit

John Utaka is almost ready to get his Pompey career underway after getting his work permit through.

And from what he has said on the Pompey Site I cannot wait for him to get started, as much as he cannot wait himself 'I've always said that I wanted to play in the Premier League, so I am delighted to be here.

'My main goal this season now is to have a good season. My effort, and our effort as a team, will be to take Pompey to the top'.

He will not be able to play against Havant tonight - although Gary O'Neil could, after returning from injury - or Eastleigh tomorrow, but should have the formalities completed in time to fly out with the squad on Saturday as we head off to Asia.

It is then hoped, if not expected, that Utaka will be able to play some part of the Barclays Asia Trophy, which starts next Tuesday with our match against Fulham.

its great that gary is fit, and, although i wont be at either fo the games tonight, or tommorow, or at hong kong, i look forward to hearing about them! I am suire they both be a sucess, as O'Neil should be over his ankle problems, and Utaka seems very eager.

on a less positive note, I have talked earlier about how the premiership will be much harder next season, and to my dismay, Kamara - and Sanches - said that they expected fulham to finish in the top 10 in the premiership. I had them going down next season - despite having spent so much - but it just goes to show that everyone seems to be expecting big things, unfortunatly, its not just us who are, so i dont think we should have too higer expectations for next season - my words of advice, ignore them at your peril!!! :)

Fulham will struggle carpet, the signings they have made are pretty ordainary and added to thei already average squad they will be below us again. Glad that Gary will be back soon and Utaka will be eager to go when he gets to Hong Kong, i am looking forward to seeing him in action, i think he will be a little bit better than Kamara.

Rug i would be delighted to keep a diary of events, i just hope the other contributers would not mind our group sharing our experience with you. We fly out on Saturday and i will do my best to keep it short and sweet. Cheers for the suggestion rug, i will give our best to Kamara !!

Just got in from Havant, Very ordinary, looked just how it was, a team not used to playing together. It was very reminisant of a training session. Nugent, Taylor, Davis, James, the only likely regular first teamers. Songoo, Muvemba took a while to get into their stride, but I thought grew in confidence. The back line of Stef, Pamerot, Treore, O'Brien looked out of sorts really didn't seem to Gell too well. Did enough but would have been tested against tougher opposition. Richard Duffy started in Midfield then reverted to the back and looked out of his depth. Nuggat had a few oppertunities, and i honestly thought I was going to witness his first goal in a Pompey shirt, but he blasted over. He made some nice flick on's and got into space well, a little disjointed on the night but plenty in him to see that with regular partners he will progress. Have to say I liked the look of Songoo and Muvemba by the end of the 90, Made good runs, good movement, nice finish too. All in all a useful 90 minute work out.

What do we hope for from the rest of the season?

There seems to be a lot of unhappiness around, despite a pretty decent season in my opinion. Well, certainly our best season in a long while.
