Geovanni after a permanent move

Geovanni after a permanent move

After a goalscoring debut and man of the match showing against Yeovil on Saturday, Geovanni has said in The News, via his agent Regi Pereira that he wants to sign permanently 'Geovanni was with Barcelona and then he went to Benfica for three years.

'Now he wants to play in England and he wants to stay with Harry at this football club.

'He is here for two weeks, just for adaptation. It's not a trial. If he likes it and Harry likes him then he will sign. He wants a change and likes England.

'Geovanni is a free agent and a quality player. I hope Portsmouth sign him - he would be very interested'.

When the fellas were warming up I could see him, but did not know who he was. Then when the Yeovil stadium announcer read out his name I was still none the wiser, except for the fact I liked the name, which made him sound like a good player!

It did not take long to decide that I liked the look of him; he showed willingness to look for the ball, not waiting for it to come to him and wanted to be involved. The fella had good, quick feet with what looked fine vision, using this to set up Lomana LuaLua and most importantly got into the right place at the right time to score a tap in.

His goalscoring record is not very good, but it is believed that he is more of a midfielder than an attacker, although from the looks of it he could play an attacking role.

Yeovil are a good side, but he will need sterner tests to see what he is made of and this should come during our participation in the tournament in Asia next week - although my thinking is he would not have signed for Barcelona for more than £10m, let alone play for them, Benfica or Brazil if he was not a fine talent?

Yep, from what I saw he looked tasty and is well worth a few more looks - besides he is making the right noises and seems like a player that wants to be here, the other Pompey players certainly seemed to have taken to him too.

Well if it's not a 'trial' then Harry must like the man. Reading the reports from you lot lucky enough to have seen him then, I think it's only a matter of time. Hong Kong will be the decider.

Wasn't at the game on Saturday but judging by the comments of guys on here he seems to have something about him. As a free transfer he must be worth a try given some of the extortionate fees being paid for players at present. It may prove that he is more of a bench man but would be nice to have something else in reserve.

Not a bad bench man to have, what was the fee when he moved to Barcelona, £13.5m? And he's only 27, supposedly at his peak... As for his goal scoring record I suspect that he'd score more than Lua Lua if given a run. ;-)

i would like to be at the game tonight, but sadly cant make it. on the subject of tonights game can you check this out fellas and let me know what you think... i would be more than happy to see him a bench man at least, but my thinking is he could come into his own when the african nations come around if he stays - which i can see no reason why he should not?

he's a right-winger. its no disgrace to not have Peter Harris' goalscoring record when you're stuck out there

Give him a few more games and then make a decision, after all if he played at Benfica and Barcelona he should have quality. D'Allesandro played regularly in La Liga last year and looked pretty good when their games were televised.

sign him - we dont have much to loose, he wants to come, and has played for big clubs, and is quite good. 'arry has a reputation for sorting out unreliable playors (jamo) and making them brilliant (i heard somewhere he was good on his day, but not reliable enogh for barca/benfica...) for , so im sure he can do the same with this guy.

Done Deal - Smith in permanently from Swindon

The interest Pompey retained in Smith, with him 'in our sights' has resulted in him returning to the Blues on a permanent basis after signing for an 'undisclosed fee' from Swindon.

Cushioning the blow

Much, that needed saying, about Webster's exit for Ipswich and the arrival of Clarke in return (and cash) has been said hasn't it? Doyle's been spot on with what he said.

Swindon striker in 'Pompey's sights'

Michel Smith, who was of course on loan last season, could return? He's still in 'Pompey's sights' by all accounts after Swindon informed him he's 'surplus to requirements' now.
