Geovani impresses Harry

The inevitable trialist always appears in a pre-season friendly for Pompey, but very few catch the eye, leat alone make a goal and score!

In recent years only Andy Henry has caught the eye in these matches, remember him?

I feel 'Geovani' may be an alias also, I can't find evidence of a player under that name anywhere, in fact I think he may be a Teenage Ninja Turtle.

All we know as of yet, 'He is a Brazilian with a Spanish passport' Redknapp told SkySports, so he fits the right criteria of being a EU citizen and not available for the Africa Nations Cup!

Roll on Havant & Waterlooville, and maybe another appearance from our mystery guest!

I wasn't there, but heard Munter also impressed! Im no oil painting, well, possibly a picasso, but hes a pretty ugly dude....not quite Tevez though!

Quite wrinkley looking for a 22 year old.

Oh yeah, Geovanni is his real name. Look him up on Wikipedia and you'l find his record. Not bad at all.

He played for Barcelona and Benfica. There was no alias name being used. I think he might get another run out against H&W and if he fails to do the same thing there he won't be offered a contract. I'm not sure why we'd need another player of his calibre? He's an attacking midfielder of sorts and Kranjcar, Lua Lua and to some extent Muntari fills that role.

He looked a good player, but then again his CV is good, could he be worth a punt, i think Harry and Joe will know by the end of the training camp, but he is another option and probably cheaper than Diarra. Playing against Fulham in Hong Kong would be a good test for him, but at first glance i thought he did good.

It was quite amusing to read the reports and see that a player that I'd never heard of was our best player on the day......typical 'Arry.

Sign him before others try & pinch him. If he's on a free, we have little to lose.

Yep Lysimachus, once i got the spelling right all became clear. Pompey rug and i decided he had to be good because he had a flash name what more evidence do you need i ask. I thought him well worth a trip to asia on that performance, he was creative and sharp, he is more of an attacker than Muntari (also impressive yesterday in a that ball is mine kind of a way), Geovanni seemes to drift to the opposite side to Krunchie (LoL 1 game and im an expert) so i dont see an issue there and the guy is on a free. He reminds me a bit of D'Allessandro. Some of the crowd seemed to forget Nugent was on our team yesterday i hope they are a bit more patient in future or it will be 6 million wasted.

http://www.uefa.com/competitions/UCL/Players/Player=60963/index.html this link on UEFA .com has a small Biopic, the more i read the more he reminds me of D'allessandro, as a free he has to be worth it. Coming from Cruzeiro he will not be on a high salary but the ownership will need to be checked

The ownership problem would have to be investigated, but he would appear to be a bargain, as people are saying he isa bit like D'Allessandro, and we know what a good job he did for us. Mind you lads he needs to do it at a higher level than Yeovil, we could take him on one of our famous loan deals and have a good luck at him.

Owenspompey i think you are right a trip to asia against fulham will be a better assesment. He has the brazillian/portugeese nick name soneca which means sleepy as he has an apparently quiet and calm personality. the paraodox of this is he also has apparently a bullet shot.

flash name, played for barca, and on a free, not needing high wage...what could possibly go wrong?

Carpet think Tevez and Mascherano, it could not happen to us could it !! I just hope he does turn out to be a steal, as he does give us another option especially when January comes around.

When I mentioned him to my boy he said 'do you remember that goal he scored against Man U at Old Trafford in the Champions League, to make it 3-3, It went so quiet you could hear them doing High 5's!!!'(for Barca) Don't think we can go too far wrong with signing him if his trial goes wrong, Could be a good cheap option.

after my ownership panic attck i asked a mate in media street to do some checking and it is not thought there are any ownership issues... he called me paranoid i got him back though i told him at pompey its an essential qualification

he also said as the lad has a EU passport there are no ANC or Copa issues. people in media street are eulogising if HR decides to have him he has probably pulled of another one they didnt see coming. its all early days yet, and i keep remembering we have had a few wonder boys that didnt do it

Bloody hell mate you dug up some rubbish there, we were all going on about a qualty squad and you come up with those names. Add Vukic and Koroman as two more recent quality types that we had.

And be fair about Olisadebe. He was injured when he came and it was quite a feat to attract to him to a relegation threatened club then.

Geovanni is also my local pizza delivery boy who has been well trialled. Let's hope the Pompey version comes as cheap, is thin and crispy, not too cheesy and bangs in the goals like the olives. May he put the 'Parmasan on the Pizza' or the 'icing on the cake' which ever Giovanni way you are looking.

geovanni looked really tasty fellas... as much as i like lualua i have to say he made him look a mug! you do not play for barca or benfica, let alone brazil if you are not all that do you? he cost barca over 10m once didn't he... i liked the fact that he went looking for the ball rather than waiting for it... give him a few more games, but i was really impressed with him, free agent too!

TruePompeyBlue, tbh i think he was trying too hard... when you do this you often falter don't you, but im still more than convinced by him. i also thought that muntari wasn't that great really, but again i am not concerned by this... the men that impressed me the most we davis - early on, kranjcar, mendes, mvuemba, songo'o, o'brien and the star man geovanni...

First game they were all trying to impress, and not many of them did. It is early days yet, i thought Davis did well, but O'Brien relly suprised me. Song'o relly showed some good touches and good pace, much to our suprise maybe his loan spells have done him good.

O'Brien looked good, but he was playing against opposition he was comfortable with. I believe he is a very good player up to Championship level, but comes up short v Premiership forwards.
