Pompey boys - Hermann Hreidarsson

Shortly after Sylvain Distin's arrival Hermann Hreidarsson became the second summer arrival on 25th May - signing a 2-year contract, joining on a free from Charlton.

The Icelander has been in the English game for a decade now, coming in firstly to sign for Palace in the mid to late 90's.

Transfer fees of almost £9m have seen him with 5 clubs before Pompey, so he has had some pedigree, although he has suffered relegations from the Premiership with 4 of his Premiership sides - Palace, Wimbledon, Ipswich and Charlton.

Harry Redknapp had tried to sign 'the Herminator' before, with a move looking likely. But he decided against it and went to Charlton instead.

After his 4th relegation with Charlton at the end of the 2006/07 season Redknapp swooped to take advantage of a clause in his contract that allowed him to leave on a free if they went down.

Hreidarsson has been a consistent performer as a left back mainly, but he has also played as a central defender too, so he will make a good signing - adding strength to the squad and a genuine left back option. And an added bonus he likes getting forward.

Good addition to the squad! Top player, Hard tackler, dosen't get caught too often. Gives us added aerial threat at set pieces. A good leader, Marshalls a line well. Welcome aboard I say. What with him, Distin, and Lauren all liking to get forward, Sol could have his work cut out!! lol. Interesting to see Harry say he now has 17/18 players ready to play in the Premiership!!, that leaves a heck of alot of squad players.

Oh yes, he's a great player. He's been in relegated teams at: Wibledon, Crystal Palace, Ipswich Town and Charlton Althetic. Need I say more? (colchester fan)

Pretty solid player, should prove to be a good signing - especially on a free.

He plays for Pompey now, what has that got to do with Colchester, he is a good player who performs consistently at Left Back or Centre Half, by the way he played for Wimbledon, Palace and Ipswich someone has been looking in their Rothmans yearbook, the new one comes out on the 10th August.
