'If It's Football, It's Vital'

'Appy Harry as duo sign (AUDIO)

Portsmouth extended their summer spending when they signed David Nugent for £6m and Rennes attacker John Utaka this week.

Having already signed Sylvain Distin, Hermann Hreidarsson, Sulley Muntari, Martin Cranie and Arnold Mvuemba, Pompey boss Harry Redknapp forked out an additional £6m for the England striker, as well as an undisclosed fee for Nigerian Utaka.

And Harry was most certainly happy as he showed off his two new players to the media.

Harry certainly seems confident ahead of the season, in fact hes stopped getting in excuses before the season starts!
paultsmouth
always a good sign - if we start the season with excuses there is always that get out clause... well done 'arry, you - and the rest of the club - have done us proud... onwards and upwards!
pompeyrug
onwards and onwarads and onwards, things can only get better. Champions league next season folks?
pompeycarpet
il be happy with top 10, although anything above 18th will do (£50 million anyone?)
spoiler
lets not run before we can walk mate... minimum i want and expect is maintaining 9th, anything below and i will be disappointed tbh...
pompeyrug
Finishing 9th in the league would be nice - and maybe a decent cup run as well - would be a good test to see how well the squad would cope in the UEFA cup...(assuming that we were to make it...)
pompeycarpet
Anywhere in the top 10 would be great and i agree what would we give for a long Cup run, plus beating bloody Chelsea, we still need to build on the squad for any Eurpean ambitions, remember what happened to Ipswich.

Yes carpet you are right, we will have to wait for the world class players to arrive before we make our big push for Europe, but that will be a good party wont it. Thursday nights in Spain and France, we can really enjoy ourselves then, and Westwood will become a candidate for the Eurovision Song Contest.
Owenspompey
ah, those will be the days...and i wouldnt be surprised if he actualy wins eurovision - the amount of...no, i wont say...that is on there.
pompeycarpet
do we not have world class players at the moment fellas?
pompeyrug
depeneds on your definition of "world class playors" :) Alex fergusan said he had only ever had a few...and he didnt include ronaldo, or rooney in that..(i think the list was schmeichal, giggs, scholes...and that was about it :) ... )
pompeycarpet
true mate, the terms 'world class' and 'great player' are probably too commonly used these days aren't they so what they actually mean has quite possibly been lost...
