Nugent completes his move to Pompey

David Nugent has come through his medical and put pen to paper to officially become a Pompey player. It has been long and drawn out, sometimes even painful, but we have got there in the end - and got our man.

The 4-year deal was agreed earlier in the week so having come through his medical one of the countries most highly rated youngsters - certainly the most highly rated outside of the Premiership - has finally wrapped up a move to become our 5th signing of the summer.

A deal looked a possibility earlier in the summer, then seemed unlikely particularly with Harry Redknapp ruling it out. It then looked highly probable when Sunderland withdrew their offer, looking unlikely again with the time it was taking him to decide. But when finally ordered by Preston to move on or return he decided Pompey was the right place for him.

At a reported 6m the England man becomes our second most expensive player ever - behind 7m man Sulley Muntari - and could be in line for his debut on Saturday in our first friendly of the summer at Yeovil - on the subject of Yeovil fellas check this out.

He might not have had the greatest strike rate in the Championship but is a great investment, so with the quality he has and the extra quality around him he should be able to improve on this here - and my thinking is he can only get better.

Oh boy oh boy, two strikers at once! Our squad is looking very strong now.
Tantona
After all the panicking and worrying we have got our men, now we can look forward to a decent season in the Premiership. Well done to the staff at Fratton and welcome to the new boys.

l my matas are laughing at me today saying we've wasted our money..it didnt help when he confirmed at the P/Conf that there was no one else interested in signing him...least of all Everton. well I hope he proves my chelseargyleeds fans mates wrong- thats reaaly clever because they do support those three teams
plymouth graham
let them laugh mate, he who laughs last and all that... my only worry now will come when the african nations comes around, but we will cope - unless a non afrcian also arrives? if not i feel kranjcar could fill the breach...
pompeyrug
I still make it only 1 striker when the African nations is on..still two great signings in my book!
CharlieChimes
Always under control, never a worry. (ish)

We might have to use Andy Cole when January comes around, maybe David Nugent will have to do the donkey work and Andy just bang them away like he used to. However there is still time for us to steal a bargain from somewhere,we all know how resourceful Harry can be.
Owenspompey
Dear all UItaka is not a striker, i still think harry will go for harewood or kanoute
russellm
i agree russlm, we will still get another striker - but i wont try to guess who. ... graham - did you not laugh back at them, because leeds are in division 1? and they were bought back by ken bates? i hardly see them as being in a position to laugh at us! Utaka is pure class, Nugent too.
pompeycarpet
In the sky interview, Harry wouldnt rule out another player in the transfer window, so russellm has a good point!
CharlieChimes
hav a feeling cole could stay
retro hat
I get an inkling someone else is lined up, just a matter of time

plymouthgraham its true Nugget didnt seem totally inspired but nor did LuaLua oo Yak and we fans turned the attitude of a them and few players who have come with the nobody wants me feeling. We have to be positive. I recall watching him claim Defoes goal against andorra and it seemed a bit off to me but once Nugent gets a goal or two for us it will change. I am sure harry did his "put yourself in the shop window speach"
russellm
Cheers russellm, He's hungry thats for sure. I'm feeling better about it all
plymouth graham
i would like to think Yak but sven the pen is after him, plus there is the ACoN issue
russellm
The squad is now the strongest I can remember in my time as a Pompey fan,and I really can't wait for the season to start. Bring it on !! Well done Harry, and THANKYOU Sacha !!
lincspfcfan
YES!!!! THANK YOU SACHA! becasue the guys out of public eye I do tend to forget about him, but my god, the guy is definatley coming go for us!!!!!
CharlieChimes
Yep he is, can you imagine the pressure on Harry to succeed now
russellm
Good point. Harrys not good with expectation. As we all know, when were not expected to do well & we do, it great..but harry is always playing us down, to pull expectation down. Problem for harry is, the team looks good, very good in my humble opinion...have we every been in a position where we have done worse than expected? because now its becoming easier & easier for that to happen!
CharlieChimes
"have we wver done worrse than expected?" - no, and this isnt the time to try it out. I have great confidence in Harry as a manager, and if he expects us to do well, then we will do well, AND play the most atractive football in the premiership. and i think my ideas about sacha are already known...
pompeycarpet
We wont get a better manager than Harry, if the unthinkable happened who could we get ? we have been down this road before. Provided we dont raise our level of expectation too high, and go with the flow, believe in the squad, give them a fair chance i am sure we can do as well as last season and a little bit better.
