Nugent completes his move to Pompey

Nugent completes his move to Pompey

David Nugent has come through his medical and put pen to paper to officially become a Pompey player. It has been long and drawn out, sometimes even painful, but we have got there in the end - and got our man.

The 4-year deal was agreed earlier in the week so having come through his medical one of the countries most highly rated youngsters - certainly the most highly rated outside of the Premiership - has finally wrapped up a move to become our 5th signing of the summer.

A deal looked a possibility earlier in the summer, then seemed unlikely particularly with Harry Redknapp ruling it out. It then looked highly probable when Sunderland withdrew their offer, looking unlikely again with the time it was taking him to decide. But when finally ordered by Preston to move on or return he decided Pompey was the right place for him.

At a reported £6m the England man becomes our second most expensive player ever - behind £7m man Sulley Muntari - and could be in line for his debut on Saturday in our first friendly of the summer at Yeovil - on the subject of Yeovil fellas check this out.

He might not have had the greatest strike rate in the Championship but is a great investment, so with the quality he has and the extra quality around him he should be able to improve on this here - and my thinking is he can only get better.

After all the panicking and worrying we have got our men, now we can look forward to a decent season in the Premiership. Well done to the staff at Fratton and welcome to the new boys.

let them laugh mate, he who laughs last and all that... my only worry now will come when the african nations comes around, but we will cope - unless a non afrcian also arrives? if not i feel kranjcar could fill the breach...

We might have to use Andy Cole when January comes around, maybe David Nugent will have to do the donkey work and Andy just bang them away like he used to. However there is still time for us to steal a bargain from somewhere,we all know how resourceful Harry can be.

i agree russlm, we will still get another striker - but i wont try to guess who. ... graham - did you not laugh back at them, because leeds are in division 1? and they were bought back by ken bates? i hardly see them as being in a position to laugh at us! Utaka is pure class, Nugent too.

In the sky interview, Harry wouldnt rule out another player in the transfer window, so russellm has a good point!
