Redknapp confirms Nugent deal

Confirming David Nugent's arrival - pending a successful medical today - Harry Redknapp has said to sky sports news that his signing 'shows how far we've come'.

As well as saying 'I'm delighted to have him. He works hard and that's something Portsmouth fans like.

'We have brought some real good players in and I think with a couple of strikers, people like Nugent coming in, it will be a good season for us.

'To get him in that will be great, but I'm still looking for another one and then we will have a decent squad'.

It has been a long drawn out saga, but one that will - baring any unforeseen problems with a medical, which should not happen - be concluded today with a happy ending. And will see Pompey sign an exciting young prospect - and better still an English prospect.

Seeing his solo effort on sky sports news on Tuesday, where he waltzed through a defence from the halfway line before scoring, reminded me what a great young talent we are picking up, if I needed reminding.

I look forward to seeing this other too - whoever he might be.

Exciting times. eh? Will he have number 10 off Lauren? Makes sense.
great news, get defoe and utaka as well and we will be chuffing unstoppable :)
yep, he could take 10 off ralph - which makes most sense agree, but 9 is available anyway isn't it? or he could take cole's 8... when he comes through that medical today i'll be a very happy man! utaka and another striker, be that defoe or yak and we will be a right handful this season...
Based on previous experiences with Pompey I still won't believe it until I see it. But this would be an excellent signing, he's not been a massively prolific scorer but with the kind of service he could expect from us, a bit more experience and some decent coaching I think he'll be an excellent acquisition. Oh yeah and playing alongside another top notch striker will help...Defoe/Yak with Benjani tossed into the equation. Nice...
Bump, crash,urgh,aghh.........that was me doing a cartwheel!!! :-)
one thing to say...................... whoopeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
An iffy medical, dodgy knee, reduce the price....
Press Conference at 5 today to unveil 2 new sigings Nugent and...... Utaka I would guess
all done, dusted, and another playors coming too!!!!
Now at least we can tackle the first 6 fixtures (top 4 included) with some degree of positive strike force. A first up win at Derby is a must with 3rd game Home against rubbery Bolton. This could allow a Man Utd loss (surely not after 3 out of 4) with 3 more big guns in a row. O.K. so if we are 12th after 6 games I will be very happy because I would believe we can only go up at that point. Does anybody agree or do you only wear rose coloured glasses ?
well, an easy 6-1 win over derby, followed by wins over Man U and liverpool. the usual 2-0 defeat to chelski, and another draw against arsnal. Bolton wont be half as good as they were last season, so a win over them...i wish :)...but just one more striker, and ill be a very happy man
and the club do seem to be doing a LOT of work behind the scenes. i had no idea we were so close to getting nugent - let alone Utaka (as the second man is thought to be) - indicating that we have come along way in learning how to deal with the media! And with regards to the long time it took to get nugent, has anyone considered that it may have been us delaying, as 6 million seems very cheap for him, particualy compared to kamaras move to fulham, and bents move to totenham...
The five oclock press conference will annonce the arrival of our new strikers. It is also being rumoured that Kanu is staying so we will have the choice we all wanted. Well done to Harry and Peter Storrie for getting them and for the chairmann for allowing the funds to be made available, now we are really being serious.
Welcome aboard David!
muntari and utaka are both very exciting prospects, as they were both extremly keen to join us, and have been for many months. its just a shame nugent wasnt, but im sure we will grow on him :)
Good bit of business for you boys!
Cheers Baldy, lets just hope that they produce on the pitch for us. We will probably stop chasing Defoe for a couple of months now.
nugent would not be here if he did not want to be here mate, nor would the club have taken him... all exciting times on and off the pitch now...
Nugent explained his love of Everton at the press conference , you cant knock him for wanting to play for the club he supports, mind you Craig Bellamy found out that the dream can soon be shattered. He states he is at a big club, i just hope that it does not affect his England chances, but the two of them are most welcome,a nd we can look forward to the coming season with a great deal of hope.
