Americans target Pompey?

American takeovers of English clubs seem to be the 'in thing' and the Mirror today claim that Pompey is the 'latest club to be targeted by American investors'.

They claim that two consortiums with connections to the American MLS are 'weighing up' offers in the view of approaching Sasha Gaydamak.

Our improvement on the field and the impressive moves forward we are making off it - and could make yet further - appear to see us as a 'worthwhile' investment with our value said to have increased to 60m.

Is this just the Mirror with nothing better to write or could there be some truth to it?

Maybe so, but as much as Sasha is a business man my thinking is he has started to go down a very impressive road with what he is doing at Pompey so why sell now - yep, maybe get out while the going is good but potentially this could get a lot better!

I have been emailing our cousins in the american Pompey fan club and they say that this is new to them, and that they will ask around etc, to see if there is any substance to this. We seem to be moving in the right direction at the moment so we should not be suprised if businessmen get interested in us, but why would the current owners want to sell ?

The Mirror reflects on all things nonsense.

agreed and agreed fellas... even if approached sasha surely would not sell at the moment as his vision extends a good few years - after this maybe he will, but he should then sell something worth alot more than what he could get now...

sasha has done us proud so far,so I hope this is nonsense

This does sound like utter Mirror BS, and let's hope it is!

It only makes sense if someone can take us further than what Sasha can! We all gulped when we first heard Milan wanted to sell us on. This might be hogwash news but somewhere down the line it may make good sense. As long as no one buys the scummers!

Years down the line fair enough, but too much upheaval over a relatively short time cannot be a good thing. Especially as we've done really well so far under Sacha.

It is all rubbish isnt it. It must be our turn to be looked at by the Americans, it will probably be Bolton and Wigan next week. Sasha is the man, and he wil be here for the next few years, and will be here as we get into Europe and win the FA Cup, pass me more lager !! I can dream.

Being some way sort of linked to this stuff through my job i dont think its rubbish but the club is recapitalised at at least twice what has been paid and the value only looks to go higher ( subject to strikers) so it would not be in sasha'a intrest to sell yet. Once planning is acheived for the stadium the situation may change as there wouild be a current value and an increased future value.

Speculation is rife at the moment with anything and everything. The papers have to report something and the Mirror is very good at reporting utter rubbish so I would not even worry about comments like this. If only they could look in their own Mirror they would see a very ugly being indeed. Mirror, mirror on the bog wall, who's the fairest of them all....certainly not that rag, although it does indeed belong in a bog !!

I would not be worried, but it also would not surprise me if americans would be intrested in buying. We are a club, clearly going forward, on and off the itch, so the fact that americans would be intrested in buying us is realy of no big surprise. But if sacha is a buisnes man, he wont sell us, and if he loves the club, he wont sell us, so we are pretty safe at the moment...i think.

it all depends what sort of american interest. there are plenty of 'rich' americans looking to invest. what we don't want is some yank borrowing money to buy the club and then getting the club to pay back his interest as in the case of the Glazers at Old trafford, and Sonny and Cher at Liverpool are. I'd rather stick with what we have at present to be honest. I quite like being Russian owned.

oh, i like sascha, as he seems to be doing everything right at the moment. But like pompeyscum says, he is intrested in buying, so why should americans not be "intrested" - but nothing will come of it...

I like Sascha too, He brings a quite dignity to our beloved club. He seems to just get on with the business of being a Chairman, raising funds, improving our behind the scenes staff. Youth development on the go, Training ground, Next level players brought in...and all without fanfare. The man's a star, would love him to stay and see how far we can get. Truth is we're never going to be a top 4 club, but we'll have a dammed good time trying to get there!

Forgot to add; Who would'nt be interested? relatively cheap to buy, Star definately on the up. Liked by just about everyone (except the scum...but who cares) Ripe and primed for a take over i'd say! and on the verge of Europe...Oh yeah, and the best fans in the Prem, Can't go wrong

Sascha loves the club, this is really out of the blue and in my opinion rubbish, however you never know in football do you, then we could call ourseles the Portsmouth Patriots or the Pompey Raiders. We have a message for them GO AWAY.
