Primus desperate to be fit for Derby

Pompey have been back in training this week, with the exception of Gary O'Neil and Linvoy Primus - who are not quite over their summer surgeries.

But Linvoy is getting closer to a full return and has given an interview on the Pompey site - with the bits and pieces of his quotes here taken from this - saying how much he would 'rather just get straight back into playing' as he recovers from his knee operation as well as looking ahead to the 2007/08 season.

He hopes to get some friendlies behind him but will 'definitely be back for the start of the season' ready to face Derby - a game he is desperate to play in as he will come face to face with former Pompey captain Darren Moore, also a close friend of his.

Since the fixtures were announced Linvoy has been looking forward to the Derby match and would desperately like to be involved as he would come up against his old mate and one time defensive partner - when he first arrived he was like a 'mini me' version of Moore.

To have any chance of making this match Linvoy will have to 'get a few games under his belt before we face Derby' - and it is hoped that he could play a part when we go to Asia at the end of July.

Good luck to the man, if there is anyway he can be fit to start he will be there. I am not so sure he will be playing against 'Bruno' they have now signed Todd from Blackburn, who will have come for first team football (when he is not suspended).

todd is a brutal fella isn't he, i would not like to come up against him... is bruno not their captain tho? if so unless he cannot retain his armband like stefanvoic is ours he would play you would think... whatever happens i hope optimus is fit and selected, but feel distin will get the nod alongside sol...
pompeyrug
I agree with 'rug, even if fit,Linvoy is likely to start on the bench

It seems it's only traditional for Linvoy to have to start the season on the bench; he'll prove his worth to 'Arry once again no doubt.
Tantona
No need to rush back, thankfully more than covered in that dept. No doubt when asked Linvoy will rise to the occasion.

I can't see anything other than Campbell and Distin in the middle as first choice, But what cover Linvoy gives us.
pentonpompey
Linvoy will prove us all wrong as he does every season, he will be in the side and proving how good he is. We write him off every year but he is the man.
Owenspompey
optimus is far too good to sit on the bench - as my forum image shows tho i am a massive fan of the fella... linvoy for england... if he plays well, as he will, he will take some keeping out of the side if 'arry picks things fairly...

Where do you see him playing rug ? Do you think he is a better player than Distin? All the City fans up here reckon Distin is just an average player and are not sad to see him go, they certainly think that Linvoy is better, however whenever i have seen City Distin always looked solid.
