Nugent signing looking unlikely

I do not want to be the merchant of doom - but I know I am not alone in this - but my thinking is a move to Pompey for David Nugent is not looking too likely now; with him told to return to training with Preston on Monday if he has not agreed to a move here by then - which seems unlikely now.

He would be a fantastic long term signing for us if he arrived, but he is said to have 'his heart set on Everton', so it is most likely that he will see out his contract and sign for them at a lower price next summer.

I may well be way off the mark - and hope I am - but I am not that hopeful that we will see him in a Pompey shirt as it looked like we might, or at least the media were telling us it was.

As much as it is a big deal for him and he needs time to decide what to do, my thinking is his lack of words is speaking volumes, so rather than leave us hanging he should tell us he does not want to come instead of leaving us to withdraw our offer - as Sunderland did when they got fed up with waiting.

Almost all footballers do what they do for the love of it, but football is still a job for them - even so they have to go where they want to go and also have to want to be somewhere; Nugent appears to want to be at and go to Everton more.

If we miss out, we miss out this is no reflection on the club - we then just move on for someone else. But we only want players here that want to be here, players that want to wear the shirt.

Can't say I'm surprised with Nugent's keenness to join Everton. He is after all a Toffee at heart!
He's a good un, but not worth 6 mil, mind you Darren Bent aint worth 16 mil either
is anyone worth what the cost tho really? 6m for nugent tho would be pretty good business tho by todays standards...
as i said somewhere else - if nugent wants to sign he will, if he doesn't he should stop buggering us around and say so! everton wont pay what preston want, we are offering acceptable money - as did sunderland - so when is he going to get it into his head that everton wont so he should also stop buggering preston around and show them some respect, as afterall they pay his wages! all said tho we dont want him here if he does not want to be here do we... preston will happily wait until next summer if needed and still probably pick up around 3.5m when a tribunal decides the fee. he may not be happy next season but if he wants a move to everton next summer he will have to earn it so preston will benefit anyway...
It's a bonus to get to play for the team you support. Almost no one does. What a *****.
Can't believe ***** is asterisked out. What about twot?
Ok, then. What a twot.
He'd be fine after a few days, it's like going to High school from Primary school. He'd just have to make friends with the big boys and try and join in their games. What a twot.
There's a pattern forming here.
theres a patern forming of Et_tu_Pompeii comments :) this is a family site mate, no place for the c u next tuesday word, but in the right context my pet hate word is well used... we might be surprised yet - you never know, but i dount it...
i not only dount it but also doubt it...
for twot read tw@ ?
Tw@ - that's clever, cheers. BTW it always was tw@ it was never . . . . er, you know . . .the other word.
you don't need him - he's overrated, but its good to see pompey competing for players like this and thinking big.
yep Nugget has had his week now, so we should assume its a no and move on, hopefully we will take the 6 points out of Everton when the season starts
unless of course he decides to join us, is commited and plays brilliantly and then he wont be nugget anymore
Well, we can see now why Roy Keane lost his patience with him.
He's holding out for Everton & will hold PNE to ransom over it.
Let him go to Everton, he will be rotated there with their current crop of strikers, and he can be an underachiever at another "sleeping giant" He could have come to us and made himself a hero, but he will choose the easy option and go there and do nothing like Johnson(ex-England), Beattie(ex-England) and Vaughan and Amichobe, i just hope we hammer Everton next season and Sol puts him in his pocket.
at a tribunalit is nw the fees it would of cost to train the player rather than a fee they could of achieved. we would nway haveto pay 3.5 mil for him,.
Mike we would not be so bothered if David Nugent was honest enough to admit that he did not want to sign for Pompey. If he only wants to go to Everton tell us and then go there or wait till his contract is up.
i reckon he wont sign for everton because they wont pay the cash even though they have told him to be patient and wait for the PNE board to drop the price, but i think Sven might jump in

Hope your're right PG, that news will really lift us despite, and I'm one of them, those that think he'll not commit 100%. If he comes, he will. We are that sort of club.
evertonmike that is not relevant it is not a tribunal training cost matter, he has a full international cap, bids were made and offers accepted at 6million therefore Preston have established that a market did exist at that price , they would get 5.million plus their cost at a tribunal for sure
Come on Pompeygray where have you heard that he will sign? The truth would appear to be that he has gone off and hidden again like he did at Sunderland or do you know something that we all do not know? Come on Nugent yes or no it is as simple as that .
yep agree with russ that everton would get him cheaper, but still not a massive reduction as they might hope... also agree with you Owenspompey mate, it is a simple yes or no answer now isn't it - he is not doing himself too many favours with his image in general ceratinly not with sunderland, pompey and maybe even everton by the way he is conducting himself, but most importanty as they still own him and pay his wages - so respect should be shown to them! - preston...
You are right rug, and you cant blame Paul Simpson for making him report to the club on Monday, after all they still are paying his wages. He must know by now what he wants to do, and that is obviously not coming to Fratton or going to Sunderland, he can have another season in the Championship which will probably cost him his place in the England squad now that Bent has gone to Spurs.
Well sorry Pompey Gray- A name I have been known as myself when I lived in Bolton- but its now 2.45pm on Sunday and we still only have Lua Lua,Cole, and Benji up front....SO FRUSTRATING
plymouth graham
theres a new system this year mate, we would have to pay 2 mil absolute tops. It varies from age groups now, you would be right if he was under 19.
you will be lucky to get him for 2m next summer mate - even with any new rules in place...
We should withdraw the offer for this idiot and learn lessons from Roy Keane who lost interest because of Nugents delaying tactics and waiting for Everton.
i have to admit his attitude seems to stink... keeping teams hanging on - basically holding them hostage while he waits for a deal to be negotiated to let him join everton sucks... no one, no matter how talented they are or how much they can be a long term asset are worth this so we should tell him to sod off and stop wasting our time - unless he signs and i take all this back :)
Never trust a footballer. They always f*** you up in the end.

Monday Noon. After all that effort lads (and lassies) the talks are back on again. Hopefully not for too long!!
