Pompey snap up kids

We have finally signed a striker - the draw back is the fella is only a kid, so we will not be seeing him for a while.

Pompey look to be investing in the future as well as the present with the signings of Paris Cowan-Hall and Callum Reynolds from Blue Square Premier Division side Rushden & Diamonds for an undisclosed compensation fee.

This striker is 16-year old Paris Cowan-Hall - Rushden & Diamonds club secretary Matt Wild told the Rushden & Diamonds site 'we offered a two year scholarship to Paris last season which he decided to decline upon. This then left him free to sign for another club subject to compensation being payable. After much hype surrounding the player we agreed terms with Portsmouth this week leaving the player free to sign for them'.

Wild added 'it goes without saying that we wish both players all the very best. We are obviously disappointed to lose the pair but we don't want to stand in their way in terms of their career to which we are confident they will both go on to achieve great things'.

I do not know anything about Cowan-Hall or his 17-year old team mate Reynolds, but it is refreshing to see us investing in some youth.

I had to laugh when I read the thoughts on the Rushden & Diamonds site though when they said 'the pair will now join Portsmouth's highly successful youth system' - how many players have we produced recently?

Cowan-Hall is said to have had a trial with Chelsea last season and he even trained with United during a long spell with the club - so he seems to have a pedigree that has not gone unnoticed by the very best.

'Portsmouth's highly successful youth system', who the hell have they been talking to!! Could be good 'uns for the future though, we shall have to wait and see.

it made me have a laugh mate - christ knows who is feeding that information? but whoever it is get them here and they can be the spokesperson when we are looking to impress potential signings with our 'impressive youth system'... good to see us looking to the future tho isn't it, good luck to the kids...

this may sound daft but is the new site being run from a base in europe - other than england? i only say this as the timing seem to be an hour ahead of british timing ergo somewhere in europe... the mvuemba article on the new pompey site for example has 14:58 on the time it was added, it was just after 14:00 - british time - that i could get the site to work and it was already on there, which in my thinking means it would have been alittle after 15:00 in some european countries...

We've prbably got a sweatshop of failed trialists working from Romania on the PFC website. Has anyone seen Collins Mbesuma recently? You've got to get your moneys worth out of them some how.

I hink storagematt's comment of buying in a youth systenm is quite relevant, i actually think it is quite a good idea. If these two progress even to play for the team or even if they move on it will encourage others to join and may also sort out the somewhat fractured youth system we have in the city at the moment which tends to drive talent up the motorway to scumpton ( those of you who have had any involvement with kids and pompey will know what i mean)

We need a wise head to get the youth scheme up and running and Paul Hart is the man to do that. Our old chairman new that youth would have to come to the fore at Fratton and this is a serious attempt to get back to the days of Awford, Symons, Kelly, Gough, Powell, Anderton and Ross, so lets give him a chance who knows there may be another crop in a couple of seasons.

yep agreed again Owenspompey, one of the reasons i really rate milan was because for me i accept that clubs have to be run on a business basis and he was right we will never get the biggest crowds lets be honest we cant fuill fratton park regularly so a 36000 stadium???? It seems to me that to become self sufficient as a club we have to become a net producer of players. Like Man U or the old west ham, some you keep some you sell. What i mean by self sufficient is, have a class stadium, not be in debt, have the facilities to attract the players and be regarded as a threat to any team
