Pompey Chimes (23)

What happened on Tuesday with Pompey and the media? Lets take a look. reported that Boro manager Gareth Southgate had stated Yakubu was 'going nowhere', nor was he looking or even asking for a move, contrary to recent reports. I would still be very surprised if he starts the 2007/08 season with Boro though.

Arsenal defender Johan Djourou could be a target according to the Times. They reported that Pompey could battle it out with Birmingham and even Watford to sign him on loan for a year. This was covered in full by Vital Pompey in this article Quiet whispers linking Djourou.

Italian striker Giampaolo Pazzini - said to have been interesting Pompey a few weeks back and more recently Sunderland - is going nowhere either according to setanta sports, who say Fiorentina are very reluctant to let him leave. He was not to everyone's liking but I would have still very much liked to see this fella here.

Pompey record signing Sulley Muntari has vowed to 'clean up his act' and reduce the number of cards he picks up in the future. This was another story covered in full by Vital Pompey in this article Muntari to 'clean up his act'.

The thing that really caught my eye though - other than the continued links with David Nugent - was the news setanta sports brought us that our attempts to sign Fredi Kanoute might not be over just yet?

In what they said was an 'exclusive interview' to with Kanoute's agent, Christophe Mongai - a man we seem to have gotten to know quite well with his talking in recent weeks - said 'Fredi is happy at Sevilla but, if he doesn't obtain what he expects, he could leave the club.

'There are two principal parameters for him - the family one and the financial one. His family would love to come back to England. It is his first choice if he has to leave.

'Pompey have shown interest but haven't made a concrete offer. This option cannot be ignored'.

We do not appear to be making a lot of progress in public - but this is not a bad thing - but seem to have a few irons in a few fires, so I look forward to hopefully having some deals tied up in the next couple of weeks before we head off to Asia.

Nugent appears to be our number one priority now - and hopefully this deal can be wrapped up - but it is believed that a player that can hold the ball up extremely well, such as Kanu, could teach the young England striker the art of this, as it is needed to improve his game further.

With Kanu destined to leave Kanoute is a ready made replacement for him, but with a greater goal threat also so could he be this man to teach him, even though he pledged his future to Sevilla. So lets keep an eye on this situation - if we pay the price we will get the man, our reported £4million offering will not be enough though.

The sound of Nugent & freddie sounds great storagematt but lets keep are fingers crossed, but i would still love the idea of the Yak returning, he gets around 20 goals a season or more and he is still young so i think he would still be a great signing. but as ever i know 'arry' will do a great job and get the players in, mostly everyone has been doubtin redknapp on gettin strikers in but us lot knowing Mr redknapp ne thing is possible. To be honest as long as we get 2, as to which 2 is just guess work. Don't want to be lefy with nothing.

I trust Harry toget the signings. We all thought we had given up on nugent - but then it emerged we had had a bid accepted, and talks were under way. Whilst it remains not too likely that we will sign him, the idea that they made talks without telling us is encouraging, as it shows we could be looking at many more than just him!
