What happened on Monday with Pompey and the media? Lets take a look.

Yakubu is destined for City if Sven gets his way. The Mirror reported that City would pay £12million for him - £4million more than we would apparently - to 'seal the deal'. As a result Harry Redknapp's attention will be turned fully to Jermain Defoe with an £8million bid primed.

According to The News, Nigerian international John Utaka claims he is 'on his way' - but the same report also claimed that Utaka was looking forward to playing alongside Kanu! So, how old were the quotes that were used? This was covered in full on Vital Pompey in this article Utaka claims he is on his way.

With Svetoslav Todorov's agent confirming his exit over the weekend the Mirror claimed a move to Leicester, to reunite with Milan Mandaric could be close - no surprises here then. On the subject of Leicester our pre season meeting on August 4th will now be an all ticket match.

The thing that really caught my eye was the varying news surrounding David Nugent.

Various papers said he would decide where he goes - if he even goes at all with the BBC reporting that Sunderland had withdrawn their offer, better still though the late breaking news from sky sports news that he will arrive for talks with Pompey on Tuesday! This too was covered late in the day by Vital Pompey in this article Harry to chat up Nugent.

Apparently Everton wont pay anymore than £4million and are reported to be turning attentions to Alan Smith, Sunderland have now withdrawn their offer so this could leave the door wide open for Pompey? Nugent is reported as being keen on Everton - but maybe, just maybe there could be something here for us after all with the England international?

One of the Vital Pompey team - paultsmouth - suggested that Redknapp could be playing it 'cute' by putting up smokescreens with his thoughts on both Nugent and Defoe - maybe this could indeed be the case.

Sounds like we could have some striker signings soon, hopefully Nugent and Defoe....maybe Utaka, although the only reports I've read on that seem to come from the mouth of the player himself.

My worry here is that with Sunderland withdrawing, there will be no competition to sign Nugent. This means that Peter Storrie will try to get him on the cheap, so much so that PNE will not accept it and we lose out yet again. At least with another side in the race we will be forced to compete.

I'm sorry, but I have no confidence in this actually coming off.

Yep, there is that mate, but villa are still interested aren't they? i am going to think positively tho and go with the 'we will pay what we have to pay' - within reason - to get him...

why did we ever doubt harry? (hope its not too erly to say that...) We are finnaly on course to make a decent striker signing! - as for Yakubu, I cant see him moving to Man City - even with the millions. He wants to play in Europe, and for that, I still see middlebrough having a better chance than man city.

Nugent AND Defoe, now that would be interesting and make people sit up a bit - profile raising or what! Course, it won't happen but just think if it did . . . . . .

I'm getting bored with all this transfer chat. Defoe isn't going to join pompey. I suspect yak is trying to use Pompey as a bargaining tool to either engineer a move or bigger wages or both. Nugent is waiting to join everton and can't understand why they won't bid for him.

Bah, transfer chat is all we have in the summer, how can you get bored of it? Picking the genuine stories out from the rumour mongering is a complete nightmare though....

untill we set off to asia, its all we can do. Anyone think we wll play a more high profile team from the continant, as we have done in past seasons, or will we just play the ones we already know about?

I got a good feeling about this one!. If Harry can convince Campbell & the likes of Distin, he'll get Nugent! sounds good!!!

Third time lucky? Nope as O'Shea interest ends

O'Shea saw a couple of bids for him put in; these were turned down by Chesterfield. A third bid hasn't come from Pompey and it isn't going to either.

Topping last seasons tally the aim

78pts was only enough for a play-off place last season so you suspect we'll have to better that for a top 3 finish this coming season, which begins with Carlisle at Fratton.
