Harry to chat up Nugent

Sunderland were confirmed as would be suitors for the services of new England cap David Nugent, Pompey were hinted as the other un-named club.

But now SkySports has reported that Nugent will head South tomorrow morning to meet Harry Redknapp.

My suggestion to Redknapp is to get Nugent to a family barbecue and get the hounds out again until the man signs!

Hope there is something in this one! No quotes from either party as of yet, but Sky are more reliable than most, now if BBC report it, we can believe!!

it seems to be catching the attention on what will be tomorrow's tabloids also mate - so lets just hope talks go well, privoded they do actually take place... he would prefer everton but they wont match the price, so get him signed up 'arry... ive almost always been impressed with him when watching him for england u21's and preston but must admit he was quiet at the u21 euros recently...

Do visiting fans a favour and bung a roof on your ***** hole of a ground before you lay out any more money on players. You deserve to be thrown out of the Prem for neglect of basic amenities.

Hey why don't you do us a favour instead Clear Sky - your opinions are always welcome but comments like that are not, as is your presence at the ground. If you don't like it, then sod off and don't come down here! you obviously lose quite frequently when you visit, must be a Manure fan!! You Muppet.

Hope to see Nugent down here, but I somehow doubt there is any truth in the rumour by Sky.

By the way Clearsky, if you took the trouble to look before you start flapping, you will have learned that a roof is actually being built for the Milton End, which is why we cannot have any home friendlies this season - just to cater for numpties like you who have forgotten what real football stadia is, rather than some poshed up bowl!

What, white & english! Don't tell Harry this, quick get the make up out. Yes we'll have him, get one & soon get another. PS. Clear Sky. I spent 20 years visting away grounds around the country that were pretyy basic & crap. They havn't all been state of the art stadias. Kn0b head.

No objection to numpties commenting on our shoddy Milton End, IF it's offered in comment to an article about the Milton End. Clear Sky, your comments are clearly completely irrelevant to the topic being discussed here. Grow up. Back to the subject at hand - in my opinion Nugent is worth the risk and should be signed if possible - even at 7m. Arry should use the old Amdy Faye trick...ie lock him in a hotel room until he signs!

there is always one isn't there... 7m sounds like alot - and it is alot by our standards, but on face value is only a couple of mill more than we could pay for harewood... england international in his early 20's full of promise or late 20's never reached his supposed promise? only one winner here - nugent...

I agree, if we're as close as 'talks on the South Coast' then there is NO WAY he should be allowed to go back North without signing. NO WAY at all. WHATEVER the cost (well, within reason, of course) Give him a gourmet burger, Harry, show him just how sophisticated we are, down here!

Time to lock him n the cupboard and loose the key untill he decides to sign :)...and insedentaly, we shouldnt go slagging off new bowl type stadiums too much - that is precisley what we are thinking of building, albeit the best bowl in the premiership still a new fangled bowl!

I'm pretty sure the rumour we were talking to him is true, don't know how the talks are progressing though. 7m is a lot of money but 'arry reckons he's good enough for the prem so who are we to doubt. As Nugent has expressed his desire to play in the prem this season and we are prepared to pay 7m for him, then I doubt we are going to see too much stalling on the contract talks (I hope).

i dont think too many of us are douting it is the right thing to do in signing nugent - most if us want him, it just seemed 'arry was against it but has changed his tune now... but it could be like paultsmouth said, 'arry was just playing it 'cute'... if handled the right way we should not have too much trouble selling the club to him, look at the players we have and the vision we are meant to have! so offer what is right and fair to the player and preston and we could get him...

Don't want to be a merchant of doom (getting hopes up) Do we really think we are going to get Nugent? He has openly said he wants toplay for the Toffies. He has only ever played for Northern clubs, has all his Family and friends up there. Does he really think coming to us will enhance his England prospects? given that, that well known Fratton season ticket holder; Mclaren never even bothered to come down!! God i hope he does sign....just hope his heart is in it, and not just his Wallet. Sorry my first say was a doomy one.

say away mate it is good to have another voice on board... it is no secret he would prefer a move to everton, but they dont look like paying what preston want do they? yep, all facts that point towards him not signing but tbh i dont think his wallet will be his motivator, what we can offer him is - and that is premiership football with a club looking to go somewhere... my thinking remains the same as always, spineless steve doesn't use his reserved seat at fratton but just because you wear a pompey shirt it wont mean you wont play for england. if players perform - that haven't already been written off, jamo and sol - and perform consistently they will get a chance...

One thing Pompey have in their favour is Harry Redknapp, some love him, some hate him, but he is a charmer in the art of swaying players our way, just think of Campbell, Distin and James, all three could of walked into any Premiership club bar the top few, and maybe even a couple of those would fanct one or two now.

I can recall my boss remarking how disapointing Nugent was when PNE played down here at Argyle.I also heard the scouse columnist from the Times running him down.. so I have to say, having not seen alot of him myself I'm not really sure. Clarridge and macca seem to rate him. As ive said before I completely trust Harry's nose for goalies, backs and m/fielders but so far his choice of forewards has been a little iffy, mind you they've all done well elsewhere except the\tall bald one who's name escapes me -scored against spurs on debut

I agree, the likes of Taylor, Campbell, James...O'Neil, can't keep on playing the way they are; and be excluded for ever. We do have other reasons for a young striker learning his trade, to try his luck here. If the kanumeister is staying, (because we called his bluff) What better player to show The Nuggat how to hold a ball up(apparantly one of his lesser skills) A past master, or Mr Cole; a true legend at it.
