What happened on Friday with Pompey and the media? Not a lot really but lets take a look.

Harry Redknapp's usual 'I would like him at Pompey' kind of thing that he says, this time in relation to Claude Makelele was taken as meaning Pompey will be making a £2million move for him according to the Mirror. This was covered in full by Vital Pompey in this article Makelele talk returns.

Gary O'Neil spoke to The News to confirm that he wants to stay here with Pompey for the long term - 10 years in fact, so he has no intention of moving on. Again this was covered in full on Vital Pompey in this article O'Neil says he's going nowhere.

For the simple reason there was nothing else - other than the above recycled and rehashed - the thing that really caught my eye was the news that BBC broke that Djibril Cisse will be 'snubbing' Pompey - among others - to sign for Marseille, so he is another we can cross off the list.

With Liverpool insisting Cisse will not be going out on loan again and a permanent move away is his only way out of his 'Liverpool nightmare', he will be going back to Marseille - where he was on loan last season.

The French international has his knockers but could have been worth a go, so if he would have been willing to abandon his champions league wishes - something Marseille can give him - my thinking is he would have been worth a punt, but there you go he wont so we wont get him.

I will not lose too much sleep over not getting him though.

nice thought, but champions league wins every time over anything else, and if the bbc report he is not coming, he is not coming!

It will all go mad next week. Everyones contracts are up, we will see the agents coming up with all sorts. Start the A-Z of linked players please.

we dont want free agents tho do we? most will be free agents because they are not good enough... i know you can pick up some world class players on free transfers - as we have before - but this does not often happen now as quality players are usually sold before they reach that stage these days with the market as it is... tbh i cannot see that many freebies being available that will help us striker wise - can anyone think of any quality strikers that will become free agents that we would want or could get? i think saviola is but will he come here...

Fulham have just signed a deal of £6.4 mil for D Kamara!!! christ, if hes costin that much, were gonna have to spend some serious pennies for a striker!!!

I think that includes Helgar going the other way & he has been valued at £2-2.5m. Even so, it would Nugent at £6-7m a fair buy. We just can't have nothing up front & money to burn. It will be tough enough next seasonwith a good front line let alone without one.

seeing that deal makes nugent at £6-7m all the better doesn't it mate, fully agree...

that s a good point. Seems weird that we quite happily stumped 7 mil for Muntari, but 7 mil is suddenly a high price for a 20 a season striker??? I suck at maths, but that dont add up!

I feel that Harry is making it up as he goes along, we have spent £12m so far i think either the £25m transfer fund (not denied by the club) was rubbish or the wage agreements they have concluded has burnt most of it. I also think the lack of facilities is having a neagtive affect.

Pompeyrug, Harry refers to cost and says strikers are overpriced, my experience is something is only overpriced if the market wont pay the money demanded, In the striker market people are paying it. Is bent better than berbatov probably not, but the market was lower last year. By the way Defoe says he only wants to go to a top 4 team so we can probably cross him off
