Harewood looking Pompey bound?

After what Harry Redknapp said in The News is looks as though Marlon Harewood could be one of Pompey's main striking targets after all.

'I've been keeping an eye on Marlon. I like him - he's strong, quick and powerful.

'He's a real handful on his day and most of all, can definitely get you goals in the Premier League. If he could get 15 goals, he'd be a snip.'

Harewood is a good footballer, but with respect to him - and should he become a Pompey player I will obviously back him - he is not really the name we have been hoping for, or even expecting all summer is he?

We seem to be 'linked' with striker after striker but appear to be missing out due to our reluctance to pay big money. Fair enough, you do not pay over the odds but you have to pay what you have to pay in order to get a player capable of scoring goals!

The £5million that is being spoken about for Harewood is - if I am honest - not that good a value for money is it? I am not sure what he would bring us that Benjani doesn't already - maybe a few more goals?

But if he did arrive so long as another striker followed - as they would have to if we want a lot of goals - then things would be looking brighter.

Obscene value. Even if we got him for £2m it would still be too high & you would consider him as a bench warmer. Fat lot of good if we have a good defence & midfield & a goal shy front line. Very scary stuff.

I disagree, he'd be worth a shot at £2m although £5m is too high. This one doesn't have me anywhere near as anxious as the previous Bramble rumours!

I Tantonas right, at £2m he would be a good purchase at even 10 goals a season, hes not "the answer" but wouldnt mind!

Where does this two million come from? I've not heard a figure below FIVE which is seriously obscene. I really do not want us to buy Harewood, he is not a sophisticated footballer and when push comes to shove you need a footballer out there. If he could do naff all but score 25 goals you would have to think, who cares if he can't play football? But if he's only gonna get 10-12 a season, then what's he gonna do the rest of the time on the pitch. the midfield will be seriously pi**ed off with an industrial (not industrious) player in front of them. I'm sorry but no way for Marlon. I am prepared to eat my hat, of course.

just ot good enough..Harry to mythinking can pick good goalies-hislop,Ashdown james, great backs, cant think of a real duffer, excelllent midfielders....but forwards hmm toddy did well,,as have yak but look at the rest burton..Roberts..kamara..Fuller..Benjani-i know he works hard ..but does he hit the target?? Redknapp just does ot seem to have his genius radar in this area. eve his targets that he would love to have here have their critics at their own clubs Defoe at spurs. I can hear the chants now, especially at Upton Park - "What a waste of money, what a waste of money." Come on Harry, wise up for crying out loud! Stop fart arsing aobut, splash the dosh and get a PROPER goalscorer - or face being a flop next season because we cannot score. Don't you EVER check the stats of your players??? Just eight goals from the entire forward line since November, that's disgusting, its relegation fodder and its high time you got this sorted!!

Unfortunatly, it sounds like just the sort of playor harry would sign...not young, played well in the past (15 goas last season i think), but had a bad season this year, so we will get him on the cheap. sadly, i would prefer yakubu.

Apparently Ericsson wants Yakubu at Manchester City, The Arse and The Spuds are 'battling' for Chinedu Ogbuke, The Arse also want Martins but we're 'swooping' for Harewood. Great.

Tevez isnt od enough to play for us :)...why would yakubu join man city? theyre owned by some evil guy (yes, more evil than abramovic and gaydermak :)), they definatly arnt competing for europe, and they lost there best playor to us! I think we should stay in the race to sign yak, even if hes overpriced, we need the goals, and he will get them.

"He's a real handful on his day" - that's just the bloody point Harry, ON HIS DAY! The problem is, we don't have many matches in which we can wait for when it is "HIS DAY". Get it sorted Harry, FFS stop faffing about with aged has-beens who are not able to run further than ten yards before needing an oxygen tent!! You've got money, use it and invest it in a player of REAL value who will bring in more money with his goals!

city could be a threat this season pompeycarpet - eriksson is a brilliant manager at club level so if he has money to play with - if it isn't all frozen! - then he could bring in some useful players... city still have a reputation and are well known so attracting players could be easier for them, particularly with sven in charge... tip of the cap to you TPB :)

I still think if we can get Harewood for cheep, he would be worth it...15 goals was unheard of here last season, so why not??..we all want the best strikers, but why not look at him? as I said before, hes not the BIG scorer we need, but I wouldnt mind him one little bit! did Yak get 15 this season?....not a dig...I really dont know...did he?

for all the stick he took kanu was not a million miles off getting 15 goals was he last season... i think yak did get 15 goals at least, might be wrong tho... if we could pick harewood up for £2.5m that would not be too bad i suppose...
