Has Kanu's Bluff Been Called?

Has Kanu's Bluff Been Called?

Pompey forward Kanu has been holding out for a two year deal - but instead has only been offered a year. He has until the 30th June to agree or he will only be offered rolling weekly contracts.

As yet, nobody has made any offer to take him under their wing - something similar to what he was facing this time last year at West Bromwich Albion until Harry Redknapp rescued him from obscurity. Kanu has been holding out, hoping for that elusive two-year deal, but the Club have made their offer and are standing firmly by it. It appears therefore that Kanu has played a game of call my bluff and may well now be looking at defeat; claims that Ajax were keen to take him back to Holland have evaporated. Unless he signs the one year deal by this Saturday when his current ocntract expires, he will lose that option too.

He can however take some comfort in the fact that Redknapp has still not been able to find a successful goalscorer, in fact it is more than one that is needed, so perhaps there may well still be time for Kanu to come to an arrangment that suits both parties. Redknapp's search has brought links from the media with names such as Defoe, Nugent, Pazzini, Yakubu, Kanoute, Fabiano, Colautti and even Harwood but none as yet have even been confirmed by the Club.

he cried wolf one too many times didn't he and as such deserves to see the exit doors... it would not surprise me if the time comes and goes but we still have him here next season tho as we dont look much like getting anyone else - unless we break the bank! with respect to harewood he will hardly be a name to fill that many defences with fear will he? great defence and midfield will count for nothing if we cannot score goals...

Kanu maybe trying it in but if he is still here, will he give is the 100%+ we need game in game out. I fear he may do as much as he wants & drag it out to suit him. All this talk about Harwood doesn't fill me with too much confidence especially at £5m.

Harewood isn't all that bad, but £5m seems pricey like you say. Could he really be a 15 goal a season man? Unlikely. As for Kanu, it would sound like he may be on his way out.

TruePompeyBlue, Dont speak too soon Harry is talking up even Harewood ( funny i always thought his first name was Marlon) , i think this is not good, it seems to show a lack of ambition about the club. I am sure that money could be better spent elsewhere

Is anyone on this site over 14 yrs old? It's obvious that the site "admin" are not....it appears that this attracts a younger set of contributors who actually believe the garbage being posted here...seemingly all based on the Football Manager game series

Fekk, as Rug says - if you don't like it then don't read it, go elsewhere. Also, for your information, all the editors on this site are most certainly over 14 years of age, hold down full time jobs, have families and in their spare time work hard to contribute to this site.

Now run along, there's a good little Scummer, you've got another season in the Championship to prepare for - you don't want to get relegated again now do you?

Calling yourself Feck is a bad move to start with. Mr Feck sounds a little better. Master Feck, maybe nearer the truth. Kanu scored 13 goals last season and for a sec, lets assume it was no fluke - no that's fluke not feck, Master Feck - why would we want to spend 5 million on a player to score 15 a season? Might as well keep the lanky old guy and bung him a few grand extra. I think this is desperation, poor judgement or possibly bluff . . . . . hmmm, I wonder what HR is really doing, thinking and buying.
