Pompey pair closer to leaving

Pompey pair closer to leaving

The positions of Svetoslav Todorov and Kanu have been made even clearer by what Pompey chief exec Peter Storrie has said in The News about the two strikers.

'Toddy and Kanu have got until June 30 before their existing contracts run out.

'After that they can sign what's on offer or go on week-to-week deals. The deals are there, it's really up to them if they want to stay with us'.

I think that we can say it is a near certainty that Kanu will not sign his contract before the end of the month - so he is gone.

Todorov looked odds on to sign a new deal, but with this still to be signed - despite seemingly being on the table since before the 2006/07 season even ended - this too is looking increasingly unlikely now. So I think it is more than likely that he will be gone too?

Kanu will never accept - or go onto - a rolling week to week deal so June 30th is the day Kanu will go.

Todorov could stay on such a deal - if he does not sign the year long one on offer - until he found a club, but I would not think he will have that much trouble fixing himself up with a Championship side. I am still hopeful that Todorov will stay but do not hold out much hope now.

Good call, PR, but I wonder what Harry really wants, here? If he's looking to buy two strikers, he has to hope/expect one of these two to leave? Or are we/ have we been one striker short all last season? Or the last scenario is that he just wants another one to bolster the team. My guess is that these deals were put in place with the expectation that at least one would leave and if they didn't, it wouldn't cost the club the earth to keep them. Good business sense I suppose..

yep i think you are right mate, one could have signed the deal on offer - toddy the most likely - the other would not have. they are fair deals but by putting the ball in the players court they have to make the call dont they... the feeling with many people is that 'arry knows neither are up to what he wants in the long term so offering the 1 yr deals makes it look like the club really want to keep them - and they would both for a year if they signed - but if they go they will not be overly concerned as they have the situation covered - hopefully...

yep toddy is the one that could stay, but this all depends on who arrives before June 30th - if anyone?

I wouldn't rely too much on that Russell, it said a few years back that Rory Allen was still receiving treatment on his ankle but is expected to start physiotherapy soon when in fact he has already cleared off th Oz to join the Barmy Army by then, it was so badly run that OS.

Northampton (h) - Securing home advantage?

Some could view this as a 'dead rubber!' It isn't as Champions Northampton will want to end on a high and Pompey will want 'an advantage' against Plymouth in the play-offs. Right?

Pompey MotM at Hartlepool

Pompey went into the penultimate game with a slim chance of a top 3 finish. A 2-0 win at Hartlepool saw the Blues do what we needed but wins for others ended those chances.
