At last some striking encouragement!

At last some striking encouragement!

Pompey are hunting high and low for a striker, maybe we have finally found one that will actually sign?

Fredi Kanoute's agent Christophe Mongai - who made the original claims at the weekend that Pompey and Newcastle wanted him - has been talking to the press again. This time the Daily Star claim that he said Kanoute 'is looking for a return to England' and what is more he would sign for Pompey.

'I know Freddie wants to return to England and if Portsmouth are interested in him then why wouldn't he want to go there?

'They are a successful club and Harry Redknapp is their manager. Fredi knows all about him from when they worked together at West Ham.

'It's Fredi's choice to play in England again but he's scored a lot of goals for Sevilla and they want a lot of money for him'.

At last some encouragement in our battle to sign a striker - if this is true though, not wanting to put a dampener on things.

Redknapp and Kanoute have worked together before so that also gives us the advantage over other interested teams - reported to be Newcastle and now Bolton also - but the £7million - or £8million depending on where you read things - could still prove a problem, as do we really think Pompey will pay this much for him?

My thinking, yes I would like Kanoute here as we have all seen what he can do but I do doubt his ability to score the shear quantity of goal we might be looking for? If his 28 goals in the season just finish in Spain is anything to go by though he will give it a good go.

At a fair price sign him up while we can, but hopefully we bring in someone else too - if that is not being to gluttonous?

Yes, perhaps not the most reliable source....would love to see Kanoute at Fratton though (especially if he is keen to join up with Arry as the above suggests).
20/06/2007 14:21:00
I agree, it would be excellent to see him here - shame he couldn't be just a couple of years younger though.
20/06/2007 14:22:00
Well, its a start! And if he does sign, then it should surely make us seem a more attractive proposition to join - a playor for-going champions league football to play for us - but his age is a problem

'Shear quality' - perhaps subconsciously hoping for a return of Alan? Anyway, Kanoute would be good and I suspect an excellent foil to Benji's running around. Maybe a 15 goal man + a little bt of Kanu style linkup play? When he joins the rest of our squad at the african nations then we're in trouble.

Everything crossed for Freddie. Shame we can't Defoe as well what a pair.

As one door opens, another closes - aparrantly we havnt maid a bid for yakubu after all - butlets hope we do
20/06/2007 16:55:00
I would still prefre Pazzini and Yak but this story seems to have been picked up by the TV stations here in france and in the uk and listening over the net 5 live as well , but one striker will not be enough we will surely need another.
20/06/2007 17:48:00
I would also prefer pazzini and Yak, but slowly these two are slipping away from us - theres been no news about pazzini for weeks, and boro dont want to sell Yak, unless they can get alan smith. It seems strange hoping that another tem signs a striker, when we are so desperate to get one ourselves...
