Kamara missed by Redknapp

In what I view as a swipe at former Pompey boss Alain Perrin, The News are highlighting what Harry Redknapp has said with his thoughts that letting Diomansy Kamara leave was 'one of Perrin's biggest mistakes'.

'I liked Diomansy Kamara when he was here. He's a good player. They're talking about £5m or £6m for him though. That's crazy money.

'I wouldn't want to pay £5m for a player we let go of in the first place for a lot less than that.

'I think £5m is too much money for him. But I like him - I wish he was still here. It would definitely have been handy having him around still.

'We should have kept him, but the decision was made to let him go.'

I could be wrong but my thinking here is that with reports Perrin - now boss at Lyon - could help dissuade Pompey target Alou Diarra from signing the knife is being stuck in by highlighting the players Perrin let leave Pompey?

Yes, it is true I was not one of Perrin biggest fans and some players that were allowed to leave under his management should never have been allowed to go, but the more I think about things the more I actually feel sorry for the fella for the way he was unfairly treated before, during and even after his time at the club.

Whilst I have no regrets - and do believe we would have gone down under him - the more thought I give to his time here, the more attention I give to the undisputable facts that speak for themselves regarding his excellent track record itself and the more thoughts that I listen to that are being made about him the more I view Perrin in a different light.

But would I want things changed? No, but I would have liked them handled differently.

As for Kamara - maybe it is not just The News sticking the boot in; maybe Redknapp is too - he showed some classy moments at Pompey, but even his transfer to Pompey was just one in a long list that were bizarrely handled.

Like Redknapp I liked the fella and I would have liked to have kept him a little longer but I do not have too many regrets that he 'got away' from us. 20 odd goals in the Championship does not make him a world beater does it.

Kamara won't be able to prove it again in the Premiership unless he goes up there with one from the Championship with his help.
Lysimachus
Wait, when did Kamara once prove it in the Premiership? I don't want to see him at the club anyway.
Lysimachus
Lysimachus, he did score a couple of incredible goals for pompey tho...

Ease up a little fellas. The guy was an excellent prospect but was caught up in the middle of the Zajec and Perrin circus of horrors. When he played, he played with passion and commitment and also scored a terrific goal with a glancing header from an acute angle. The guy has got talent, he has got pace and let's face it that was his first season in the Prem and he didn't have many chances to show what he could do.

In my opinion, he has enjoyed a great season in the Championship, where as we all know it can be a much harder game. He has served his apprenticeship and has proved he can score. Anyone who says it's only the Championship needs to watch a few matches from there, to score over 20 goals in that league is still an excellent achievement.

I was against him leaving in the first place, he is severely underrated and being judged on just a few games in which he was not really given a great deal of a chance is wrong. I am sure he would in fact make a huge impact if we got him back here, he'd be playing under Harry and he'd have a huge point to prove too.
TruePompeyBlue
Yeah and so did Karadas (once), but you don't want him do you?
Lysimachus
But there is a huge difference between the two Lysimachus and I've watched both in reserve matches when they were here too.
TruePompeyBlue
Kamara maybe better now than when he was with us a few years ago but I'd prefer we didn't get him back. Not a great team player & quite wasteful. If he has improved it ain't enough for what we want.
storagematt
have a look at this fellas - check this out! - not too likely but we can dream...
pompeyrug
I just saw Ronaldo come out of a hotel in Munich, maybe he's going to Bayern? Although this happened during the World Cup 06.
Lysimachus
Lysi you stick to your guns, Kamara scored some great goals for us, 3 i think but he missed god knows how many chances, he was the worst striker that year in the prem. it is also evident that he wasnt prolific for the boing boing baggies until the end of the season. Sounds like harry trying tom prepatre the grounfd for another let down, Lysi you are right, fight your corner

clicked the link, and basicallt somebody may have seen the laziest B u gger to put on either a spurs or west ham shirt maybe possibly be in portsmouth, would Harry really choose such an indescreet place, im not sure, but what i am sure of is there is better value for money out there than lazy Defoe(* not my words but those of the spurs and hammers fans i work with) although when you dont have strikers anything is a step up

Just checked the BBC gossip website: Middlesbrough have rejected a bid of £10m from Portsmouth for striker Aiyegbeni Yakubu. (The Independent) Well that's encouraging, it means we've tried to buy a striker.

Re: Kamara, runs like Henry, shoots like Karadis
Et_tu_Pompeii
This will be the harry Redknapp who was convinced Gary O'Neil wasn't good enough for Pompey in the Premiership? Didn't Alain Perrin 'rescue' O'Neil from Cardiff? I'm not saying Perrin was the best by any stretch but wasn't he in charge of Pompey when we beat S C U M (managed by Harry Redknapp) 4-1?
The Rabbi
Why dont we go for Saviola, who is out of contract at Barcelona? big wages, but quality playor (from what i've heard)
pompeycarpet
and that's on a good day Et_tu_Pompeii :) Rabbi, i am more than coming round to the idea that perrin was not half as bad as i thought he was for a long, long time - hindsight is a great thing isn't it mate... saviola is a class act, what the hell we are linked with everyone else, so why not!
pompeyrug
- if you start by writing an atricle about him coming to portsmouth, maybe the rest of the tabloids will get a hint, and then myaybe Harry will...hes only been linked to west ham at the moment...but all that can change :)
pompeycarpet
Saviola may likely spend his time in Spain. After being neglected by Barcelona for half of his tenure, he won't leave the La Liga unproven. Would like to see him at Fratton Park though.
Lysimachus
If the headline was a penalty shoot-out, it would of been "Redknapp missed by Kamara"
paultsmouth
there's plenty of talent we could sign. Juan Riquelme (currently on loan at Boca Juniors from Villarreal), Javier Saviola, Djibril Cisse (a harry redknapp on loan signing if ever there was one?). we should also take a look at some of the Dutch and serb players who have just reached the European U-21 finals. I'm not sure Harry's scope covers a very wide range when it comes to looking at players. What ever happened to that player Berlin, we signed at the start of last season?
The Rabbi
probably too young Rabbi, As you say harry's scope isnt very wide, it is normally limited to Silkman and McKay. i have already asked about our much vaunted scouting network
