Kanoute Pompey's number one target?

The News is saying that Fredi Kanoute has become Harry Redknapp's number one target after Redknapp confirmed that he had been to Sevilla's game with Villarreal at the weekend.

'It was an interesting game. I wanted to see what was around.

'I do need to get a couple of forwards in, but they're not easy to find.

'I'm looking around everywhere for strikers. Finding them is the hard bit.'

This news comes off the back of reports from the weekend of possible Pompey interest in Kanoute - with his agent 'confirming' an interest in the player by both Pompey and Newcastle.

Another 'reported' Pompey target is Kanoute's team mate Luis Fabiano, so Redknapp could have been watching one or both - or someone different entirely? Maybe he was just watching a game of football - if you believe that you will believe anything.

I liked the links with Kanoute at first - and still would not say no I suppose - but when looking into his goalscoring record more, it only average out at 1 goal in 3 games during his previous spell in England. He may well have scored 28 goals in all competitions for Sevilla this season, but on previous form over here we could be lucky to get half this amount?

A £7million fee is the reported asking price for Kanoute. Is this not too much for a 29-year old that will probably not get the 20 goals we will need - so this would be better of spent on David Nugent after all would it not?

yes, 8 million would be better spent on david nugent, but he wont get you 20 goals a season either - all the more reason to get Yakubu, and maybye the itallien guy...what was he called? - that way we get the talent we know, and the prospect for the future (although it is for a little more than 8 million)

dont think Nugent will get 20 goals either but he is the forward lookers choice. Kanoute has performed consistently well since joining Sevilla and impressed enough at WH for spurs to buy him. I also remember that the Yak was inconsistent for a long time in his first season at pompey. For me i would spalsh out on Yak & Nugent but i dont have the money and I understood Nugent wanted to go to Everton.

I wouldn't mind any of the three mentioned by you guys above. Nugent will be a quality striker and a fantastic investment, yak would be fab and Kanoute is a great player who would I think score 20. I know what. Lets go all out and buy all 3 ha ha ha.

i will be glad when we finally do get our first striker... but from nugent, yak and kanoute - yak is the one most likely to score 20 goals isn't he... i would not mind getting kanoute but think the £8m being spoke about could be used for a younger and more prolific striker...

younger more prolific striker...2 come to mind...Pazzini (again) and Lita. I guess either would do if you could get them for a fiver

i would go pazzini, every thing i have seen of the guy reminds me of both Shearer and Owen, and for me thats about all you need. Lita is not for sale so pazzini at £6m and yak at £8M will see us into Europe. the problem is as i said before since the Gaydamak senior cant allocate his money as a club with an average gate of 16,500 i dont think we have that spending power.

so i would take Kanoute, for the eighteen goals we would get, cant agree with pompeymev kanoute wont gert the twenty, but even at eighteen we still need another double figures striker and unless Benji has an epiphany that means spending another 6-8million pounds

so according to our sources the kanoute thing is a back stop and to pressurise the Boro into lowering the price from £12M for the Yak.
