Diarra Pompey Bound?

Diarra Pompey Bound?

Diarra the World cup French finalist is winging his way to Fratton if Jean-Michel Aulas, the Chairman of Lyon is to be believed.
The French midfielder is admired by Harry Redknapp, but he has always played down his chances of landing the ex-Liverpool player.

Diarra made little impact in his time at Anfield, but will be hoping to prove Premiership critics wrong if a proposed move goes through.

Diarra never actually played a competitive matche for Liverpool, he was loaned back to French clubs Bastia and Le Havre, before finally making a permanent move to Lens for £2 million.

He obviously made enough of an impression on then manager Houllier though, as he later bought him again for Lyon until this seasons subsequent fall-out.

Alain Perrin will probably find it ironic, that his first dabbling in the transfer market with his new club will involve Pompey, but then again he could be the one who throws a spanner in the works!

If there is anything in this one, where would that leave O'Neil, Davis and Hughes?

i see you beat me to this one paultsmouth - was just about to write an article on it... it is looking like we may well get him so i would say that leaves o'neil and/or davis as make weights in the deal that will bring yakubu back to pompey...
16/06/2007 20:37:00
Certainly adds weight to those rumours, I know I harp on about it, but the British contingent at Fratton is starting to dwindle
16/06/2007 20:42:00
you need to keep a british contingent dont you - and i know we will still have a few, but losing too many is a worry for me too mate... i do think tho that when diarra arrives - as i really think it will now be when and not if, confidence speaking :) - then as much as i would not want to see it o'neil will be gone when yakubu - again i think it is most likely to be when and not if - returns...
16/06/2007 20:49:00
Most rumours you can see through when they surface, but Yak and Diarra both look likely arrivals, now can we be greedy and ask for another striker?
16/06/2007 20:53:00
yes we can :) and i think we will still need it - so could it be pazzini who slots in as the final peice of the jigsaw...
16/06/2007 20:56:00
Although everyone has said that Diarra is a top class player for and in France, but his record at Liverpool wasn't great. I'm sure he has learned a lot over the ensueing period but I can't see him displacing O'neil at the moment as I'm sure he would'nt be sold to Middlesborough. Hughes and Davis, however would have to go to save wages and raise money and save them from the reserves but are any of these fab midfielders we now (or may soon) have tough tackling, play breaker-uppers or do we still need Hughes and Sean? I think we need a spell checker on this site!
16/06/2007 21:48:00
Well I'll take any WC finalist player any day.
16/06/2007 22:03:00
Could happen, can't complain. But if id does, good luck Sean at your new club (middlesbrough?).
16/06/2007 23:55:00
Et_tu_Pompeii, i will admit that i do not pay that much attention to my spelling when i comment - but i do with my articles :) hughes would not really be on that much money would he? so i would still like to keep this fella around as he will be happy to play a squad player role, davis not so... True Lysimachus, you can't really turn your nose up at a world cup finalist can you...

Harsh? Maybe, but do I really feel ex-Middlesbrough, Doncaster and Oldham forward Main will be in Pompey's 1st team, becoming a key member of Jackett's starting XI? Well, no.

Apparently, having stolen the League Two title from Plymouth, we'll not be taking the Pilgrims' best player, ex-Celtic midfielder Carey, currently out-of-contract at Home Park.
