Giampaolo Pazzini in Pompey link

Giampaolo Pazzini in Pompey link

The list of striker links is growing longer and longer and the latest is only 'rumour' picked up from the internet - but a report is saying that Pompey could 'enter the race' to sign Italian U21 international Giampaolo Pazzini.

If this were proved true this would make Harry Redknapp look a tad silly - putting it mildly - after his recent thoughts that Italian strikers usually find it hard to adapt to the English game, so he would most likely not be taking the Italian route. This was covered in full by Vital Pompey last week in this article Redknapp not keen on Italian!

The word is that Redknapp has watched 22-year old Pazzini - who scored the 1st goal at Wembley after it was eventually re opened, helping himself to a hat trick in the end - during the U21 Euro Championships draw with England, as well as on other occasions on trips to Italy, when he also watched Cristiano Lucarelli - a player he dismissed signing last week.

I would not be too certain on this 'rumour' even being true but the fella has impressed me when I have seen him play. His goalscoring record over the years is only 1 in 4 games - which could only translate to 10 goals or so for Pompey, but Italian and English football is different - so not a great strike rate but he has had some injury problems to contend with too.

Although Redknapp would have to go back on what he has previously said about Italians I would not mind if the fella arrived at all - although talk of a fee around £7.5million seems a bit steep, but as we all know you have to pay a price for strikers!

The thought that Redknapp could offer Lomana LuaLua as part of a deal - as was also rumoured about happening with Wigan for us to sign Henri Camara - makes me think it could in all likeness be untrue, unless Redknapp really is that desperate to offload LuaLua or the player himself is in fact that desperate to leave - neither of which I would think are quite the case.

PLAY UP POMPEY!

The bloke looks good in what i've seen of him, but that is in two U21 matches, not much to go on!

i have not seen a whole load of him either, but what i have seen has impressed me... his showing - and not just for the hat trick - against england was brilliant... 'arry does not like italian tho does it, so if he can get over this and will pay a large price - as he will need to - then there could be every chance we might sign the fella...

I don't know this guy at all - are we saying that at, say, 5 milion, he would be worth buying?

How many Italian strikers has Hal had playing for him then? and then decided they wer'nt good enough? I can only remember one at Pompey and that was a loan signing about three years ago - scored a nice goal up the milton end. Quite liked him.

Here's a bit from Wikipedia: Giampaolo Pazzini (born August 2, 1984 in Pescia) is an Italian football player, who currently plays for Fiorentina, having been transferred there from Atalanta in January 2005. He is a direct, powerful centre-forward who poses a significant threat in the air and also boasts a powerful shot. The striker is considered a natural replacement for FC Bayern Munchen Luca Toni by coach Cesare Prandelli. Do we need a direct, powerful centre-forward? I think we might.

we had zamperini - a defender wasn't he - on loan from roma, he scored a couple of goals when we had him here... the only other italian i can think of us having is festa and the italian/american/brazilian stefani miglioranzi - i always liked this fella, he just couldn't deliver consistently could he. altho when he was released it surprised me alittle... maybe pazzini could be the next and most successful? he sounds impressive and looks impressive enough when i see him...
