The list of striker links is growing longer and longer and the latest is only 'rumour' picked up from the internet - but a report is saying that Pompey could 'enter the race' to sign Italian U21 international Giampaolo Pazzini.
If this were proved true this would make Harry Redknapp look a tad silly - putting it mildly - after his recent thoughts that Italian strikers usually find it hard to adapt to the English game, so he would most likely not be taking the Italian route. This was covered in full by Vital Pompey last week in this article Redknapp not keen on Italian!
The word is that Redknapp has watched 22-year old Pazzini - who scored the 1st goal at Wembley after it was eventually re opened, helping himself to a hat trick in the end - during the U21 Euro Championships draw with England, as well as on other occasions on trips to Italy, when he also watched Cristiano Lucarelli - a player he dismissed signing last week.
I would not be too certain on this 'rumour' even being true but the fella has impressed me when I have seen him play. His goalscoring record over the years is only 1 in 4 games - which could only translate to 10 goals or so for Pompey, but Italian and English football is different - so not a great strike rate but he has had some injury problems to contend with too.
Although Redknapp would have to go back on what he has previously said about Italians I would not mind if the fella arrived at all - although talk of a fee around £7.5million seems a bit steep, but as we all know you have to pay a price for strikers!
The thought that Redknapp could offer Lomana LuaLua as part of a deal - as was also rumoured about happening with Wigan for us to sign Henri Camara - makes me think it could in all likeness be untrue, unless Redknapp really is that desperate to offload LuaLua or the player himself is in fact that desperate to leave - neither of which I would think are quite the case.
PLAY UP POMPEY!
