Pompey to be named and shamed

Pompey to be named and shamed

Pompey - along with 4 other Premiership clubs - are to be 'named and shamed' according to early reports in the mighty Daily Mirror today.

The findings of Lord Stevens' 14 month inquiry are 'understood' to have found Pompey - with Boro and Newcastle a couple of other clubs named - guilty of breaching transfer regulations. The Premier League are now said to be preparing a joint inquiry with the FA with a compliance unit heading up the next stage of the process.

Where this leaves Pompey, I do not honestly know but I am not overly concerned really - that is not in a sense that I do not care concerned, just to clarify.

It has been confirmed - as much as anything the Mirror says can be confirmed - that no formal charges will be brought today though.

Willie Mckay - an agent Pompey fans will know well - is one of several agents in the spotlight. Pompey, Newcastle and Boro all have, or have had players playing for them who are under his representation.

Most of the top agents dealing with the top players & top clubs have some grey areas. Somebody has to be seen to get their wrists slapped to justify the time & cost of the enquiry. Can't imagaine any harsh penalties as much a case of don't do it/get caught again. Since when is any business deal where £m+ involved been whiter than white?

Storagematt, I would not be so sure. With the furore over the Tevez affair I would expect to hear large protests from the likes of West Ham, Sheff United and Wigan if the clubs don't get hit with a huge fine or points deduction. A nervous summer ahead.

I wouldn't even use the Mirror to wipe my backside with, they tell almost as many lies as the Sun and Express do, only with less pictures. Journalistic scum cannot resist a chance to stick the knife into us - we're like Millwall, nobody likes us but we don't care!!!

i see what you are both saying and i am sort of half and half at the moment... after the tevez affair people could be made examples off, so we - along with the others lets not forget - could well be the ones... on the other hand depending on the severity of these 'rule breaches' you have an argument of how can one get away with one thing, but we get punished for this... it was always likely to be an interesting summer - it could now also turn into a nervously interesting summer...

0 I have said before over the Tevez affair, had it been us then we would have had 10 points deducted plus those gained in matches he featured in, plus a £5million fine.

Wait for it to happen, we'll get stuffed by the incompetent, incontinent, inconsistent dead wood fossils at the FA, mark my words we'll get hit.

TruePompeyBlue, from the way i have written it you can see i try to point out that the mirror do not always - if ever - tell the truth... i will just see what happens myself, i will not believe too much - but at the same time i would not totally write it off myself just yet incase...

..and another point - these transfer "irregularities" seem to be quite a feature in all deals that have been arranged by the Chief Exec. This was during the times under Milan as well, so does anybody else see some sort of common pattern emerging here? Harry often moans about us missing out on players whilst the hierarchy faff about over insignificant transfer details and we often wonder why too.

Your thoughts?
15/06/2007 10:52:00
TPB, but would we have really? i would think that west ham are not liked too much either, so for them not to have been punished would have made it happening to us the same possibility wouldn't it?
15/06/2007 10:54:00
Yes I'm sure of it Rug, when you have the likes of that wing-nut Gary Lineaker and his yes men bum chums on MOTD constantly running us down it soon spreads to other areas. We've always had bad press apart from the time when we won the First Div - then they were like leeches all over us and that really did stink. I have a very dim view of the media and the way it works, which is odd considering my background and involvement in the industry!
15/06/2007 11:05:00
i know what you are saying - obviously not literally in the sense that i have a background like you, as i dont - and i know that the motd fellas and that dont much like us but i would say this applies to most, maybe even all of the other clubs outside of the top 4 and selected favoured ones or even one - spurs?
