Davis not wanted as 'bait' for Yak

Davis not wanted as 'bait' for Yak

Earlier reports from today were suggesting Pompey had offered Boro a 'cash plus player' deal for Yakubu. This player was said to be Gary O'Neil, although it is also thought it could have been Sean Davis?

Either way The News is reporting that Boro are not interested in signing Davis, this is despite plenty of talk that they did - but what the papers say and what is actually true are not often one in the same are they!

One or more strikers still - as we keep saying - remain Harry Redknapp's priority with Jermain Defoe and Yakubu top of the list of players Redknapp would 'love to have at Fratton Park'.

Some reports today suggest that Defoe will be sold if he does not sign the new 3-year deal offered to him by Spurs, but it would take £12million to sign him - but him he has already 'ruled out' a move to Pompey.

As always I say remain patient 'arry will get his man, or men. We still have plenty of time to go before the season starts - and indeed the transfer window closes - so there will be plenty more column inches taken up with rumoured targets before we finally get our man or men!

Another report suggest Boro still owe us £2,5m & we are prepared to waive that & pay them £12m, a staggering £14.5m Can't believe that.

yakubu has improved as a player - but never to the extent that he is worth £14.5m is he storagematt as you say... you pay money for goals but would it be worth paying almost £750,000 per goal - which is what we would do if he managed to get 20 - on the other hand 20 goals at that amount each could be worth £30m at the end of the season if we made the uefa cup! so a large profit would still be made - but its a gamble, even tho we know what we will get from yak... altho, unless we go down the usual route it is most likely that we will have to pay this kind of money for a striker anyway, but would defoe at around £10million be a better option? hmm, one to ponder...

storagematt my mate in media street says that the payment hangover is why reporters really think that the yak will come back, also they say the the Yak new well the gaydamak's whilst he played in Isreal. Pompeyrug according to the london rags it seems spurs are offereing JD a contract extension. If he signs then his cost will go up.

my mate said speculation based on similar deals is a player, payment waiver and £9.5M. But he says it is speculation so no one is confirming

How about Smith? he sounds unsettled, hes young, got great drive on the pitch & I think he has a lot more scoring potential compaired to what hes done at ManU??

for me the issue with smith is he was employed as a striker by manU and leeds before that. he didnt score many with the mancs and ok he was injury plagued but he didnt score much many at leeds either. So for me he would be a player who is at risk of injury and wont be any more prolific than what we have. i think the money could be better spent elsewhere. as paultsmouth has pointed out, Nugent seems to be able to put them away against any team of any standard.

but if defoe does not sign this new contract reports say he will be sold anyway - if he signs it he will definitely go nowhere... nugent is another fella that we could get here if we wanted, i would think £7m tops could get him here... smith is a no go for me do not really rate the fella and know he would not score the goals we want...

One of yesterday's papers linked Pompey with Nugent which is encouraging so perm any 2 (3 would be better) from Utaka, Nugent, Yakubu, Coloutti, Cook, O'Conner, Eastlake and Defoe.
