Pompey's Home run ended

The 2007/08 Premiership fixtures have been revealed and Pompey finally see their home run end, as we start away to newly promoted Derby.

Our 2007/08 season will see us begin at Derby's Pride Park, our first away game at the start of the season since 2001/02, when we drew 2-2 with Wolves after being 2-0 up.

Pompey's first game at Fratton sees United come to town on the Tuesday, this starts a run of 4 out of 5 games against last season's top four - the other fixture against 1 from just outside - so not an easy start, but at least our run in is favourable!

Should we go into the last half a dozen or so games with more than a chance at making it into the Uefa cup I think most of us would fancy this, with our last match being at home to Fulham.

Not as easy a you might think. I remeber when you got promoted into the elite everybody thought that you would be an easy game but you proved everybody wrong, you lot should do well to remember that!!!!!!!!!!!!!

...and you would do well to remember Dicsky that clubs coming up via the play-off rarely stay up. If you have the strength at the club to go up via the top spot then chances are you will stay up, but let's face it Derby scraped a third place via a play off; not exactly grounds to believe you will still be here next season is it?

Aye I'm not Derby you need to check me up I'm just letting you know that there is no easy game even Sunderland might pick up 20 points this time round.

Rather not had the promoted team away but what the hell, it's a game we should have down to win Let's hope the big 4 are slow starters! Thanks Dick for your input, but we can work it out for ourselves.

derby made it tho - that is all that mattered... they will not be easy, but i cannot think of many games i would have rather had than this if i were honest, altho a home start - as usual - would have been prefered... 3 points from this game are very important considering we have united, bolton, chelsea (a), arsenal (a) and liverpool on the spin after - at least it gets them out of the way... we have a nice little run in tho dont we fellas!

Would have preferred to be at home on the opening day, but Derby is a bit of result, shame they will have to lose their first game in the Premiership..........

Derby are an industrial, over-physical, unrefined long-ball outfit. Teams like this, generally don't last long but occasionally hang around for a few years, Bolton being a good example. My tip for relegation.

Derby first game. I'm happy with that. Home fixture woulda been nice but we can't have it our way every year. They will be very confident but I cant see them winning. Not with our new look defence and Muntari and mendes smashing everything fro 30 yards. Man United second game? Should be a cracking match. Looks like we have plenty of TV to watch in the first 5 weeks. I can't wait to get started. Play up Pompey

i am always confident against anyone at fratton so looking again Et_tu_Pompeii - top of the table after 3? hell yeah why not! i feel confident we can win at derby, united do not like coming here and bolton are good at what they do but without the fat controller they will struggle next season - they won't do what they did to us at fratton last season thats for sure...

I think this may be a blessing in disguise! getting thoughs tough ones out the way first, & as pompeyrug said, im always confident at fratton! not a bad run at the end of the season, so thats not all bad!!

anybody who says our fixture list last season didnt go a long way to secureing our top half status aint thinking. We will have to learn to win away from the off and but the good thing is we are away to derby with respect to the rams fans may not be ready for the Premiership at the first game. My second positive was that ManU start slowly so we should be looking for at least a point at home on the tuesday. Chelsea ok maybe not much chance, but Bolton should be a strong possibility for the three point. So if we start well august should see at least 7 out of the first 12 points available, that will mean we should be top half come september and then steady climb to what i think will be a 6th or 7th place finish. If we canlearn to win away.

Plus we got a better chance of fit players at the start of the season, so, in theory, we sould be at our strongest for the big guns!

thats a fair point Charliechimes, after the 1st month it all spreads out a bit. Hopefully Muntari and the new boys will fit in quickly with the team, that is one positive about the tour away, they can meet ,great and trai in a relaxed atmosphere prior to season start

Very true! I'm sure we can get some points out of our early travels. If our defence is as good as it looks, we will at least get some draws out of what used to be losses!

if we actually have some strikers that can score goals, with midfield players that can create them then maybe we 'arry wont be so negative on our travels and we could actually start winning... the defence will take care of itself wont it...

The defence is great with good competition for places and our midfield, even without Diarra looks strong and confident. So draw all the away matches, win all the home ones and that's 76 points - Champion's league? It's amazing, but at this stage of the season, anything looks possible - but that's the joy of football, I suppose.

even the title looks possible at this stage - but so does relegation with us sitting in 15th at the moment :)

I cant agree with the papers, I know i seem to be on a Harry bashing streak but when you travel to away games it becomes inevitable. I really do think that harry should use some of the expertise surrounding him. Jordan is a coach and doesnt do tactics, Adams does but is apparently ignored and left to coaching, Grant did the lot and succefully, but Harry wont use him.
