New seasons fixtures released

New seasons fixtures released

One of the days that every fan looks forward to is almost upon us. This day, the day when the fixtures for the coming season are revealed - and that day is Thursday.

Due to the way in which football is now run in this country - basically for money and as much of it as possible - Vital Pompey will not be able to publish a full list of fixtures for the 2007/08 season when they are released, however I will be able to say who we open and finish the season against. I will also link to the Pompey site when they are released so we can see this full list and still discuss them here.

Since the 2002/03 season we have started at home, so we must surely be due an away start - not that I will be unhappy with another home start of course! In this time we have only lost once, this being the 2-0 defeat to Spurs in the 2005/06 season.

2002/03 saw us start our championship winning season in Division One with a 2-0 win over Forest, 2003/04 - our first ever Premiership game and a 2-1 win over Villa. 2004/05 saw a 1-1 with Birmingham, 2005/06 the defeat to Spurs and last season, 2006/07 the 3-0 win over Blackburn.

nice easy start against a midlands or london team - as this is what we usual get... yep, i know this does not really narrow things down and gives me plenty of options so i will say birmingham or fulham! i want to say home, but feel our home luck will end and we will start away...

Yep, some established crap team like Fulham or wigan away would be nice and avoid all the promoted teams and all the top 4. So, not much to ask for then. Bring on 10am!

at least i got fulham somewhat right, maybe not the first but it was the last game... i honestly - hand on heart - was going to predict derby as the first game, but i suppose it would be easy for me to say this now! i am a man of my word tho... it is some tough opening for us isn't it fellas, but at least we get them out of the way. our run in is pretty tasty tho isn't it! if the uefa cup is calling i would have few doubts that we could make it this time...

honestly CharlieChimes, i swear to you - but not at you :) that the first name that popped into my head was derby... damn myself for not saying it as i would have been view as some clairvoyant who could have started to charge for his services...

Match highlights - Hartlepool 0-2 Pompey

The slim chances of a top 3 finish ended, despite a win at Hartlepool. Wins for Accrington, Oxford and Bristol Rovers meant Pompey cannot finish higher than our current 5th place.
