Cook/Ljungberg no goes for Pompey

Harry Redknapp has told The News that moves for Arsenal's Freddie Ljungberg and QPR's Lee Cook are not in his mind.

'I've heard the rumours about Lee Cook, but I don't know where they've come from.

'He's not someone I've looked at.

'Freddie Ljungberg's a good player, but I'm looking for strikers, really.'

As you would expect Redknapp is not going to come out and say 'yes I am going for these players,' but what Redknapp tells us and what really happens are not always one in the same, so moves for one or both - although being ruled out - would not come as a surprise to me at all.

Ljungberg might have lost his way recently but he is still a fine footballer and a footballer I would happily have at Pompey, although maybe these feelings are more feelings I had when there were links previously?

From what I have been told about Cook he too sounds a fine talent and could be an ideal player to carve out opportunities for our strikers - but we need some that will take chances first - so rightly our attentions need to be turned fully towards these first. And we will get one or more strikers sooner or later.

Shame about Freddie the Fag. Even if he gave you 20-25 games he would have been great. Look what Steve Stone did for us.

Very true storagematt. We all know he has deteriorated over the passed couple of seasons, but still would be a great asset to have. He would again bring a good amout of "winning" experiance!

Freddie would be a good signing and would allow Gary O'niell to play in his proper position. Cook is more of a long term punt, but i did see him play last year and he is quick and can cross a ball.

Don't need any more midfielders.

So if Frederick is on the right wing and GON is in the centre who do you leave out? Pedro? Munta? It's a no go as he doesn't want to warm the bench although Cook might not mind too much.

yep Et_tu_Pompeii, cook would not be in such a hurry for an assured starting place, freddie the fag - as storagematt so eloquently puts it - will no way want to sit on the bench here... muntari and mendes are certain midfield starters and will make some pairing wont they?

Should be amazing and together with our defence we will be difficult to beat. Now, if only we could score . . .
