Marseille interest news to Redknapp

Harry Redknapp has told The News that he has not heard of any interest in Benjani, despite reports that he was 'unsettled' in England and would like a return to France - with Marseille said to be 'monitoring the situation.'

'It's the first I've heard of Marseille's interest in Benjani.

'Benjani has done okay. He works hard for the team and scored half-a-dozen goals last season. I need strikers around. I need at least one, maybe two more strikers this summer. You're in trouble if you haven't got people to score you goals.'

Yep we are in trouble without players to score goals!

In terms of the goals that he has scored Benjani has at best done 'okay' but for his all round play and work ethic I would think you would be hard pushed to find a better forward in this country. Put a player alongside him that can score goals and we will have a great partnership in the offering.

Benjani appears happy enough at Pompey, the fans love him so unless he is missing France why would we ever want to sell him?

Rather keep him but 'if' his agent wants a cut from a sale then we will take £6m off Marseille or anyone else.

I say we picket the ferry port if he wants to go back to France

as i said somewhere else, he has scored i think 10 goals in two seasons and that aint good, the only thing you can say is at the end of each season whebn the first choices havent scored he has. I accept that he contributed a lot, is comitted and i agree, but, Benjani is paid as a striker. So as i said before i vote we keep him for the moment but we need to be looking at 8 goals by Jan 08 or he should be on his way.

in regards to the banner of the article, harry is hardly likely to admit he is talking to Marseille just before the team goes off on a foreign jolly. I seem to recall H also denied trying to off load toddy during the pre season last year.
russellm
true russell, 'arry is hardly likely to admit a clubs interest in one of our players is he - but we have to keep benjani... in answer to you, as i also said somewhere else you have 'strikers' and you have 'forwards' don't you russell - benjani is most definitley a forward. altho both by their definition should be scoring goals - so with that in mind the goals he has scored are not enough... get a player alongside him that can score and i feel sure he will score too...

I want to keep him! I like his work rate, & Im sure if we find a decent striker (sorry benji!) to work with him, it would be a real handful for any defence. As we spoke of earlier, ignoring the African Nations issue, Benji & Yak would be a pretty useful partnership!

Harry loves Benji, no way he would sell him, particularly as we can't find another striker who a) we can afford b) who wants to join us c) who we can agree personal terms with d) who no one else wants.

Pompeyrug, i accept a lot of what you say, but sentimentality apart, he has to be double figure goals in ONE season, we carried him as a goal scorer a lot last season and Kanu could gripe with reason that he was pretty much a lone striker. Dont dopubt the effort but we need goals
russellm
oh i know russell - and i hope we will get them next season... like i keep saying if he has an out and out goalscorer alongside him i think he will get them...
