Kanu ready to walk

Things had gone a little quiet with Kanu and his threats to leave Pompey recently, or so I thought - that was until I had a quick check on SKY Sports to see what was going on in the world of Pompey and low and behold he has made another 'final' threat, apparently.

You have to take almost everything that is written in the tabloids with a pinch of salt, especially what is in The Sun, but they are saying Kanu is making one final threat in order to 'force Pompey's hand' and get him the 2-year contract he is demanding.

'If I can't get a two-year contract, then I am prepared to leave.

'I have done my best and shown my commitment to Portsmouth.

'I have fulfilled my own side of our agreement and it is up to them now.'

This is the latest in a series of 'reported' threats that Kanu - who is now said to be being 'tracked' by Ajax and Werder Bremen! - has made.

With this in mind as much as I appreciate what Kanu did for us last season, which I do feel was more than just the first half of the season goals he scored - although not everyone agrees, I think it is time we told Kanu to 'sling his hook' and see if these other clubs make good on the 'reported' interest!

I wonder if they will be handing out the 2-year contract he is demanding?

PLAY UP POMPEY!

Well something has to give & there is little point in him staying if he doesn't get what he wants. A****ed of player will give you nothing but trouble so let him go or give him the extra year.
storagematt
I dont think we should give him the extra year. He knows as well as everyone he may not be able to perform for two years. I dont see anything wrong with his current contract, play a year & if plays enough games, he can play another! that is a fair contract for a player of his age. Dont get me wrong, hes been great for us, but we dont need tobe dictated by a player! I say call his bluff! & yes I know were running out of strikers fast!
CharlieChimes
I thank we ran out of strikers in the New Year!
storagematt
We will run out of strikers next New Year too. ACN and all that.
Lysimachus
CharlieChimes i we had it right about Kanu under the earlier LuaLua article, and as you pointed out the additional wages that Kanu wants ( i understand he is joint second highest paid) could be used to get a young prospect. LBH here Benji out rated and played Kanu pretty much every game since 2007 started, i think it was 6 goals wasnt it? Then the midfield chimed in with a few. Can we afford non scoring hold up play strikers? im not sure they havent cost us a place in Europe and an additional £28m, and almost certainly added to the difficulty in signing target players.
russellm
LoL like it storagematt and Lysimachus makes a very good point. We need at least two European strikers perhapse that is why Toddy is still here.
russellm
in regards Kanu's commmitment i think it is fair to say we pulled his carrer of the scrap heap
russellm
Let him go lads, hes aging fast and not irreplaceable is he now?
BomBom
If he had the ability and skill his confidance suggests, he would take the one year full in the knowledge that he would play well enough for the second. And there's the rub (blimey, aint used that expression for a while) he wants the security of a guaranteed 2 years of big money with the ability to coast and do naff all if he feels like it. Well I'd like that too so 'on yer bike' Mr K.
Et_tu_Pompeii
Just read on Teamtalk that HR is complaining he can't compete with West Ham on transfer fees and wages, for Bellamy and a French guy. How come, a year ago we were touted as the new Big Spenders with the next Russian zillionair and now we can just about give Wigan and Fulham a run for their money! I mean, what's going on?
Et_tu_Pompeii
russellm, good points we rescued kanu from playing football in the park, or at least running around it... as much as i appreciate what he did i think it is time to say thanks but so long - if he wont accept the 1 year deal anyway... non scoring strikers almost definitely did cost us that uefa cup place and an extra £28m, keep the same strike force next season and we will be lucky to even maintain a top half finish... i really do like benjani so i would be happy keeping this non scoring forward in the side because he offers us so much more, tho i still think playing alongside a striker that can score will see him score more too... Et_tu_Pompeii, yep i saw that too, doesn't seem to make too much sense to me really...

Many on here will know my feelings about Kanu and as far as I am concerned he can go now, in fact I'll drive him to wherever he wants to go and I'll pay for all the petrol. The sooner he goes the better, Harry wants a 35 goal partnership next season and Kanu hasn't hit 35 goals in the last four seasons put together, so hurry up Kanu, don't let me keep you. A better option wants your shirt.
TruePompeyBlue
cant argue with any of that pompeyrug
russellm
well acording to Newsnow he is stil here
russellm
yep TPB i certainly do know your thoughts on kanu mate and altho we haven't always seen eye to eye on this matter i do now believe it is right to say thanks but goodbye - if he wont accept what is on offer... either way agreed we wont get 35 goals with kanu as part of the partnership will we, like you say...
