Speaking in The News Harry Redknapp has revealed that he wants a strike partnership capable of supplying Pompey with 35 goals next season!
'If you don't score goals you don't win. That's why they are so valuable.
'We had Kanu weigh in with 12 goals last season and he was great.
'But I would like to have two strikers who will give me 35 goals.
'To have two frontmen weigh in with that between them would make the difference, but where are they?'
If Pompey can have a strike force that potent next season then we will easily consolidate - at the very least - our position last season, more than likely improve, quite possibly to the extent of Uefa cup football.
Thus far Redknapp's attempts have been thwarted by asking prices being too high - with this apparently the reason why Yakubu will not be coming back to Pompey from Boro, players opting for other clubs - as has happened with Mark Viduka or potential targets not being prolific enough - Henri Camara and a proposed £3million move from Wigan and French based players touted for moves to Fratton for example.
I am not sure that any of our current strikers are capable of 10 goals let alone 15 so it will either need two brand new strikers, but finding two - reasonably priced - capable of 15-20 goals each will be almost impossible, or one that can score at least 25 goals - and players of the quality and standard do not come cheap! One thing that is almost certain is we would need to again break our transfer record once, maybe twice to achieve this.
Redknapp asks where are these strikers that can score the goals?
I ask you the same thing, realistically - in terms of them wanting to come here and us not being held at ransom, who could Pompey get that may give us such a potent goal return?

...now let me see... I don't want to offend anyone here but if Harry wants a 35 goal partnership then he has to find someone who can score at least 30 of those alone as Kanu would take over three seasons to achieve that, which is what it has taken him so far.
I don't think we'll ever see the likes of Defoe here, he still has an outside chance of an England call up and with that ginger headed maggot McClown in charge, nobody who comes to Pompey will ever get a call up. the guy is a complete pratt, even if Beckham came here he'd not pick him just because we're Pompey. Get rid of the scum, vermin like him should not even have a job in football.
Rant over - for now.
Et_tu_Pompeii - I wouldn't go shouting too loudly about what you and Tantona get up to at night, some people may not like the idea of the pair of you getting your bits crossed! ;)
Man City are a club in freefall, Fulham may well be fighting to stay out of the bottom three, West Ham however may be a stronger bet now as will Newcastle be.
Our problem was without doubt the inability of our forwards to score goals, had it not been for our midfield then we may well have been a lot further down the table.
I still think we should tap up Preston North End for a certain striker, he'd do it for us.
