Pompey Chimes (5)

Pompey Chimes (5)

A lot of the 'talk' over the weekend linked Pompey with a very surprising move for Charlton's Irish midfielder Matt Holland - this talk has been put to bed by Harry Redknapp admitting 'he likes the player but he won't be coming here.'

Carlos Tenorio - an Ecuador international - has declared his interest in moving to the Premiership from his current base in Qatar. Tenorio, who is being linked with Pompey, along with a long list of other Premiership clubs, is claiming he will be free to leave Al-Sadd - his club in Qatar - after the Copa America this summer.

Another 'striker' who is being linked with Pompey - and has been for some time - Marlon Harewood, has been told he can leave West Ham. Again this is said to have attracted the interest of Pompey - and virtually every other team also linked with Tenorio, hmmmm interesting how this happens, make of this what you will. However I have been informed by a source that Harewood will make the move to Pompey - if so he is not quite the name I was thinking we would sign.

Alou Diarra, who has been a target for Redknapp - apparently - for a few weeks has spoken out about his desire to leave Lyon. Pompey are said to have opened talks with the French champions over a transfer, but the reported £4million offered for the midfielder is well below their valuation.

A lot of Vital Pompey's topics seem to be on the same theme - Lomana LuaLua - and the thing that really caught my eye though was The Sun's reports that LuaLua is 'hinting' at a move away from the club to a Spanish club, most likely Osasuna, as he would be appreciated more.

'In countries like Spain, a player of my talent would have a team built around them.

'Everyone has special gifts and fortunately I'm one of those players that can do unexpected and unpredictable things - but that is not always appreciated over here.'

If it is in The Sun it is bound to be true - but it does back up my theory in another article that perhaps the fact that he is not the centre of attention anymore is not to his liking.

Anyway, no doubt the tabloids will serve us up another healthy portion of 'gossip' today!

Vital Boxing - Bellew Wants Lebedev Next

none of the names being linked are really 'doing it' for me, harewood is an okay player but wouldn't be the 1st name i thought of, but if he comes i am sure he would do a job? tenorio seems a decent enough striker, but will he score 20 goals? diarra looks set for a move to italy tho doesn't he - but do we need another midfielder anyway... someone seems to love themselves alittle too much don't they mr lualua - being in the papers dosesn't make it true but you could imagine lualua saying something along those lines...

Wouldn't fancy a Columbian - wasn't that overpaid, over priced awful player 'Up The Road' Columbian?

The Tin Man. B0ll0X man more like it.

I think Harewood would be a great signing. He is a fast, strong, young player that really loves to play football. He is very capable and he took ManUniteds defence appart season before last. He just never got a chance to play last year. With our midfield feeding him good balls he will be able to muscle his way in and score plenty of goals. I think we should go for him. Plus he's English! What more do you want. All this boils down to how much they want for him. At a decent price i'd give Harewood the green light and a blue shirt. Anyone agree???

i still think that viafara was not as bad as people think... i think it was late 90's maybe early in the 2000's a few of us were talking about harewood - i think he had not long been the 'new kid on the block' - and we said then he would maybe be worth a look at, some years later maybe we will? you make good points POMPEYMEV - if the price was right he would make a decent addition to the squad - along with an out and out goalscorer...

I agree with you Pompeyrug, none of the names are really doing it for me, in fact the transfer talk has died down so much that we are not even getting the laughable suggestions like normal, atleast those kept us amused. I think Harwood would be a decent signing but if we did get him we would still need another one, just dont see him being a consistent 15-20 goal a season player, but then I might be wrong, lets hope so!

I really don't think Camara is the answer. We have enough under-achieving forwards that 'can't find their form' or have 'suffered from an injury hit season'. From Teamtalk: After just a year at Molineux (if he's not good enough for Wolves . . . ), Camara joined Celtic on loan where he failed to impress (great!) and scored just six goals from 12 starts (actually that's not bad, is it? - that's 19 goals for a whole season). Another loan spell was to follow at S****pton (no comment) before his £3million move to Wigan in the summer of 2005 (was he any good there, I can't remember?). You know, last season the 'linkages' were far superior: Anelka, Martins and McCarthy. Imaging buying those three now!

Does 'arry have something for big black guys or what. Any mention of Nugent? All quiet on the Defoe front!
06/06/2007 18:35:00
Looks like it storagematt, remember fuller??!!. We need that bigmoney striker...its as simple as that! harewood,ok, Camara, ok....still not one of thoughs guys are going to give us what we need. McCarthy is a great player, but sounds like a bit of a nob, not unlike Anelka! what about that Farfan guy from PSV??
06/06/2007 18:52:00
jefferson farfan is supposedly linked to ManU and has been for a while now. last season Koeman said he (farfan) should go to a big club not portsmouth, manU enquired and suddenly PSV ended up extending his contract so he might be a bit costly now. You are right charlie chimesfarfan be a great signing , i watched him in some of the European games and i think he is better than all the other linked names. Et_tu_pompeii in the great escape at wigan Camara scored and ran us ragged for the first half and would have finished it off but for some great keeping by that non holywood keepr Kiely. I could live with a forward squad of fanfan, camara, yak, eastwood and benji.....maybe even nob head Nicholas
