If McClaren goes James could return

The England door is open to David James - if spineless Steve goes! Not my view, yours - although these findings from the poll are thoughts I also share.

Steve McClaren has repeatedly said that the England door is shut on no one - his decision to recall David Beckham somewhat backs this claim - but he has also said players will be picked on merit, on how they are performing for their club sides! He clearly hasn't seen a great deal of Pompey this season then has he as James has been right up there with the very best.

It is understandably that McClaren is looking to the future but within reason age should not be a factor when selecting what are the best players - especially when a keeper is concerned as most play on a lot longer, even more so when you say yourself - as McClaren has - that players will be picked on form.

The door is not fully closed on James - but is as near as - and he will continued to keep plugging away in the hope of getting back in but I find it hard to believe McClaren will backtrack for a second time, bringing back Beckham - and rightly so on this count - is probably about as far as he will go.

How you voted - open - if spineless Steve goes 77%, shut, locked, sealed and impenetrable 9%, 'It has never been closed' - apparently 6%, shut and locked 3%, open - if others are injured 2%, shut but not locked 2%, shut, locked and sealed 1%.

Current Poll - With Kanu and Svetoslav Todorov basically told to take it leave it with the contracts they have been offered by Pompey, a final decision on their futures is likely very soon.

Some will be for one or both to stay - some will be for both to go but 'will Kanu and Todorov sign new contracts with Pompey,' let the poll do the talking before we do when it finishes.

robinson flapped at a few things against brazil didn't he - jamo can do the same as we all know, but he has full command on his area, something i am not sure robinson does... i would be lying if i said i didn't have my doubts on jamo before he arrived but since he has he has been outstanding - just goes to show that no matter how much football you watch you still sometimes don't get past a tag some players have until the play for you... if picked on form - something spineless steve repeats over and over - jamo has been the best english keeper all season...

Jamo was the form English keeper in the Prem last season without a doubt. Mclaren just won't pick him because he plays for us....ridiculous.

The very reason England are currently struggling is down to one person, and one person only - no prizes for guessing who. This McClaren is definitely not firing on all cylinders and that is down to his simple inability to pick a winning formula. Sack the**** I say and put in someone who really understands football and those that drive it.

I know loads of people have said it, but I really do believe big Sam would be awsome as England manager. We need some one who can kick these lazy over paid passionless playboys into shape, & I recon hes the man to do it. Mclaren seems to be as smarmy as ever, & cant ever seem to except how much the team sux right now! pompeygrays got it...get him out!

Our priority is Jamo being top dog for us. An England call up for any of our players would be fantastic. Unlikely with 'Cheesy Grin' in charge.

Yeah, I don't care whether he plays for England or not - if he does play, they are so crap his confidence may suffer and affect us - it would be counter productive. Better he's awsome for us than for that bunch of aunts.

David James is a great keeper and can do a great job for England. But i dont ever think he will ever play for England again, not unless we have a major injury problem

I totally agree with PompeyGray, CharlieChimes and pretty much everyone in England about Mrs Mclaren. I think that they (The FA) wanted someone in there that would be as uncontreversial as possible and someone that they could control, only problem is Mrs Mclaren had other ideas and started playing God with a team that although poor in the World Cup could atleast qualify! I say bring back Sol and James atleast to the bench and lets think about qualification!

I agree with those who say lets worry about James and Campbell's performances for Pompey. I'd rather they save their strength for the new season than having to work out what McClaren is trying to do to the national side.

I agree that we are more interested in keeping them fit for pompey, but I still believe that if anyone are worthy of playing for their country, they should! I to am a massive pompey fan, & for me I put pompey first, but I feel for the players big time when they get snubbed when it is clear as day they deserve to be playing fortheur country!

country is also important to me and altho pompey come first if it is in england's best interests for jamo or any other pompey player to be playing for them i am all for it - it is undestandable as to why sol isn't in the side anymore, as we aren't exactly lacking in defenders, but quality keepers - who perform pretty much week in week out and will be their clubs number one next season are at a premium... it is unlikely jamo will get back in but when these keepers currently in his thinking are no longer playing next season - carson and foster, who both go back to their 'parent clubs' it narrows down spineless steve's options and not even he can pick a series of players that aren't even playing 1st team football - can he...
