The Pompey saga surrounding the Sulley Muntari deal dominated most of the Pompey tabloid talk for the club on Wednesday - until this deal was finally completed, it then continued to dominate it after!
We pulled out of the race to sign Luke Young apparently, paving the way for the 'England' international to rejoin his former Charlton boss Alan Curbishley at West Ham - I didn't even know we were ever in the race to sign him?
Alain Perrin got his job with Lyon - good luck to the fella, I am sure he will do a grand job, whilst other speculation suggests that Middlesbrough will only do a deal with Pompey involving Yakubu if we give them Gary O'Neil in return - O'Neil has been a long term target of Boro - but the chances of Harry Redknapp letting him go even to get back his favourite son Yakubu are not likely.
The thing that caught my eye the most though has to be the Mirrors story saying that the Kanu dispute with Pompey - with him wanting a 2-year deal and the club only wanting to give him a year - has alerted Spanish sides Osasuna and Espanyol as well as Dutch club PSV Eindhoven. And 'a source close to Kanu' has told the Mirror.
'The proposal at Fratton Park is for one year - and he wants two. That is a big difference and why he might leave.'
If he is going to leave is it not time he followed through with this threat?
I do like Kanu - I would be lying if I said I didn't - but so long as we get in at least one proven goalscorer, ideal two then if it is best for the club to say thank you but goodbye to him I would be happy with this as I feel Benjani would work alongside a 20 goal a season man better than Kanu would anyway.
Whatever happens let us just hope the tabloids keep us amused!

Silly season will be crazy this season....

We will be linked to lots of players but in the end we need a real striker...the question remains who. If we seriously look at our team we are becoming strong in all areas except up front. It is not an easy equation but in the long run every side needs a front man, a profilic goalscorer. If Taylor continues to be almost our highest scorer, we either need to keep him or/and add to that department big time. Good luck Harry, because it is a hard quest to get the man you want....YAKUBU was our talisman but who will fill his boots ?

so long as we dont go getting in 2 forwards - 'arry is said to be after 2 stirkers - that are both african - nothing against africans at all but we would be missing them for a month and lord only knows what they would come back with! think back to yak and lualua in years gone by and the illnesses they have come back with after going to the african nations...

Paper talk is cheap, sometimes the reporters cant be bothered to go and get a real story so make up the first thing that comes into their heads.
