Primus set for new Pompey deal

Primus set for new Pompey deal

The arrival of Sylvain Distin cast a few shadows over the future of Linvoy Primus and I worried that perhaps he could find it hard to retain a first team place - despite being our best defender last season and in recent years full stop - but it appears he is very much in Harry Redknapp's plans as he is set to commit his future to the club.

His agent - John Mac - has told The News he expects Linvoy to sign a new 2-year deal in the coming weeks.

'Negotiations are ongoing and I cannot see any problems so far. We are hopeful of concluding everything in the next few weeks.

'Linvoy was probably Portsmouth's most consistent player last season. He is still hungry for success and extremely dedicated.

'He's a role model to everybody - a fantastic professional.'

Linvoy certainly is a role model and is someone any young aspiring pro could and should look to for guidance and inspiration - and he would have the time for you too - as he never gave up when people wrote him off and has reaped the benefits.

Since arriving from Reading as a somewhat unknown on a free transfer in 2000 Linvoy has not always found first team football easy to come by - however, he only missed two league matches last season - but has never let us down when called upon and this will continue next season.

My first choice pairing would still be Linvoy and Sol Campbell but with the rigours of the premiership - and hopefully extended cup runs - we will need to keep players fresh so I would expect rotation between Linvoy, Sol and Distin as none are the youngest of footballers anymore are they - but all three still have plenty to offer.

its that all important competition for places pompeyrug, as well as the effects of the season. You havent mentioned Lauren in your article but i think he will figure strongly thiscoming season. I think consistency means Linvoy deserves that 2 year contract extension, more so than Kanu at the other end. I think Dejan would/should be starting that coaching course soon.

no question lauren will be a big player for us next season - i would have him over glen johnson any day, but did not mention him in this article as it was focusing on the central defensive area... optimus is a top man - i look forward to seeing him performing for pompey for at least 2 more years...

Linvoy deserves a contract, he is the great club servant that all teams need. Harry knows he can still do a job, we will need Linvoy, Sol, Sylvain and the Terminator to fill the two central defensive spots. Lauren, Djimi, Dejan and Noe to fill the full back spots. But as for Linvoy he will play when he is needed and turn in a performance.

Decent Bloke, Strong and Sturdy Defender and someone that ACTUALLY wants to play for Pompey. A contract should never even be in question.

Nathan Thompson - A Swindon perspective

Prior to his departure for Wigan, Paul Cook wanted Nathan Thompson at Pompey. Interest was retained by Kenny Jackett, who completed his free transfer signing from Swindon last week.

Main man for Pompey? I wouldn't think so

Harsh? Maybe, but do I really feel ex-Middlesbrough, Doncaster and Oldham forward Main will be in Pompey's 1st team, becoming a key member of Jackett's starting XI? Well, no.

Interest in Plymouth midfielder? Unfortunately not

Apparently, having stolen the League Two title from Plymouth, we'll not be taking the Pilgrims' best player, ex-Celtic midfielder Carey, currently out-of-contract at Home Park.
