Pompey return for De Zeeuw?

Veteran defender Arjan De Zeeuw is being linked with a sensational return to Pompey - okay maybe the sensational bit is a bit much, but it would be something - after his release by Wigan at the end of the season.

Former Pompey captain De Zeeuw - 37, is looking for a new club after Wigan decided not to give him a new deal and some speculation is linking him with a return to Pompey, what role - and how much of a role at that - he would play I am not quite sure though.

The Pompey decline under Alain Perrin well and truly started when he allowed De Zeeuw to leave the club - seeing Andy O'Brien as a better option to our captain and best defender at the time. De Zeeuw was one of a number of players that should never have been allowed to leave this club when they did - his, and other players quality were not replaced for a long time - almost to long.

Leicester are also being linked, so with the Mandaric connection and the chances of regular first team football more likely - something that a player of his age will be looking for - this would look the more likely move. Any return to Pompey would most likely involve a coaching role combined, which would then cast further doubts over members of the current coaching set up.

All in all a return to Pompey is not a very likely scenario to be played out but De Zeeuw will always be a Pompey hero in my eyes.

PLAY UP POMPEY!

the sentimental part of me would love to see de zeeuw return but we all know it is highly unlikely - stranger things have happened tho... his release was the worse mistake of perrin's spell in charge...

I'd welcome hime back. As long as he's not expecting to get a first 11 place in the side every week. He done great for Pompey before Perrin stuffed the side up. I'm sure his wage bill would be reasonable considering he's a wrinkley ha ha
POMPEYMEV
more chance of a milan reunion at leicester
paultsmouth
maybe he is coming back as the team Doctor!
pompeymark
Great player, but he wouldn't make first choice now for sure. Deserves to play for a team like Leicester where he can be assured of a starting berth as has been said in PR's article. Wherever he ends up I hope he has a successful time, and may he play on for at least another few years!
Tantona
Yep, I go with meeting up at Leicester or maybe a newly promoted team. Great as he was in our past, that is where it should stay.
storagematt
He won't go back to the same club a second time (a la Wigan) and we don't need him. I'd put my money and dependancies on a Milan reunion at Leicester..
Lysimachus
Sorry, 'arry dezeeuw would be a backward step. Loved the guy when he was here, but agree storagematt, thats where he should stay, in our memories and in our hearts!
pompey4me
yep agreed storagematt i cant see it happening unless possibly its a coaching role, maybe as a future replacement for TA
russellm
that is what i was hinting at russell in my writing - but with him wanting to continue his studies when he retires coaching does not really seem like something that will happen with de zeeuw... agreed with most of you here - i loved the fella but we have moved on...
pompeyrug
Never return to the scene of former glories.

Yet more made up tosh. Any sources? Any quotes? No. Coaching? the same De Zeeuw who has said throughout his career that he has no interest in coaching at all, and as soon as he finishes playing he'll return home to continue his medicinal career. and as for Perrin breaking the team up, get a grip, he had no say in it whatsoever. De Zeeuw and Stefanovic stabbed him in the back big time, and the way de Zeeuw slated us on his departure means he'll never be welcomed back by me
fekk
So you're saying De Zeeuw should Fekk off?
Lysimachus
hang on a minute fekk all along i have said that it is unlikely and is not something i have personally 'made up' - someone else might have to have sold papers but as soon as i saw the words 'de zeeuw' and 'linked with pompey' as he is a hero of mine i wanted to share and see what people thought... clearly you would not be happy with this - and it wont happen - but to say de zeeuw stabbed perrin in the back is a bit rich isn't it - surely this was the otherway round...
pompeyrug
You mean he stabbed him in the chest?
Lysimachus
Not the other way round at all. De Zeeuw started the summer saying how the squad needed strengthening and competition for places was essential. All it took was the signing of Andy O'Brien, and Perrin saying nobody was guaranteed first team football, and de Zeeuw spat his dummy out and went crying back to Wigan. I'd also be intrigued to know where you read this so called story. The only Pompey/de Zeeuw links on the entire internet are here and on tribal football
fekk
fekk again i say i have not said it will happen - just say it has been said, there is the difference... if i had said it would happen you would have something to moan about on 'this story' - not being funny mate but simple thing is if you dont like it dont read... your opinion on the matter - the de zeeuw and back stabbing matter - may differ from mine, but that is what this site is about - opinions - but getting on at the content is not needed - why would i just want to make it up?
pompeyrug
Great club servant, but he should not be brought back to the club. Leicester would be a good move for him and we would all wish him all the best. He is another legend who we want to remember at the top of his game.
