Pompey snap up the Herminator

Just two days after Sylvain Distin's free transfer arrival, Pompey have completed the transfer of Hermann Hreidarsson, also on a free.

Following Charlton's relegation - the fourth relegation of 32 year old Hreidarsson's English career, having suffered similar fates with Palace, Wimbledon and Ipswich, a clause in his Charlton contract kicked in and this allowed him to leave on a free - and Pompey pounced, signing the Icelandic international on a 2 year contract.

Harry Redknapp has tried to sign Hreidarsson previously but his attempt was thwarted, but perseverance has paid off for Redknapp and he has finally got his man who will make another good addition to the squad.

I would be lying if i said Hreidarsson was one of the first names i thought of but he has been a decent footballer and will certainly improve the quality of this squad yet further - another good signing...

Certainly provides good cover and he's indicated that he knows that he won't be automatic first choice, so it shows that he's prepared to work hard for the chance to wear the shirt. Good attitude and I believe a good signing (despite the four relegations label).
Tantona
I like him. He's a good quality player who is very strong and good in the air. Well played Harry!
POMPEYMEV
He is a much better player than his 4 relegations may seem to show, the teams he played for were just not good enough were they... No arrogance meant here - but we are!
pompeyrug
Totally with you guys on this one! In my book hes a great purchase. I know a Charlton fan (ulgy bloke), hes a big fan of the herminator. Hes a reliable, consistant player. Well done Arry, keep up the good work!!
CharlieChimes
Cover for both CB position and for traore if Mali qualify for the African nations - or should he be in the team ahead of Dejan?
Pompeysweden
1 and a half steps forward (Distin and Hermann) but if the rumours around Matty T are true then that's a further 2 steps back!
bluedr
It would be a massive step back wouldn't it bluedr, not the kind of message we want to send out... villa are very much a club like us, on the up with money, probably a little more than us to play with tho - i just hope this is nothing more than speculation... we have to keep players like matty, gary o'neil and so on, losing him would undo what has been a good start to the summer...

HH was totally awful last season. With many friends being Charlton fans I enjoyed watching him truly ghastly performances every games because I still didn't like the way he snubbed us before. The only mitigating circumstances are that he was in a shambolic team, 4 relegations means he has been in 4 bad teams yes, but when does that stop to be an excuse after 5 or 6 relegations?! 'Cover' had best be his role. Although he can get the ball down and play a bit, even scamper down the wing which is a good asset in a footballing team.
Liquor&Poker
vital villa have an article on Matty now, if anyone fancies sharing their views?!
CharlieChimes
Shared my view to the latter. Showed them didn't I?
Lysimachus
i have it on pretty good authority that the journo who wrote the bit on villa's interest in matty taylor is one of the better ones, but it is not that likely... it is more likely a case of martin o'neill saying he would like matty than anything else - who could blame him tho, matty is a fantastic footballer...
pompeyrug
i don't mean the journo at vital villa - the journo who wrote the bit in that birmingham paper is said to be one of the more reliable ones... of course i am not saying mr jp fear at villa is not a good one either tho! as he is...
pompeyrug
He's damned good at Left Back too!!
TruePompeyBlue
mirror reckons villa have offered 5mill for taylor
paultsmouth
Every player has his price but Taylor is worth more and should stay with this squad. I am the last to be racist, and don't care where Pompey players come from, but it would be nice to retain'ENGLISH' players...enough said.
pompeygray
yep - we are an english club so we want to see english players in our team don't we pompeygray...
pompeyrug
getting back to the title subject, is there anyine esle out there who thinks this signing is a waste of good pompey money. he is bloody awfull, if we are supposed to be in for davis why not use the money in that direction. as Liquor&poker says, he can scamper down the wing but then cant get back leaving a bloody great hole in the defence.
russellm
in terms of a squad player - and a freebie at that - i feel we could have done much worse, so i am not to concerned about it being a waste of money as his wages would not be that high i would not have thought...
