Muntari's Pompey move close

Pompey have been linked with Sulley Muntari since last summer, but the reported £10million transfer fee Udinese were demanding at the time for the world cup star was more than we were willing to pay.

Harry Redknapp has continued to track the 22 year old and these efforts appear to have paid off as talks are taking place after a fee was agreed with Udinese - thought to be around £7million, way above our previous club record fee.

It had been hoped that the press conference that announced the signing of Sylvain Distin would also announce the arrival of Ghanaian international Muntari, but it was said the move was close, all being well even closer now.

Such a move has been met with glowing recommendation by a whole host of English based footballers and fans, as well as a huge overseas backing too.

I am personally very excited by this move and not just because of the substantial fee involved, Muntari is a player of great talent and ability and just the kind of player we should be looking for.

Not over till the fat lady sings they say! But he had a great 2006 World Cup. Only worry three red cards last season. Once this is done next priority striker with proven record.

if sulley signs which i expect him to, bigger names will sit up and take note of a club moving forward, next stop defoe!

30 years of pain, well not that many actually. We've had some good seasons along the way but never a season like what we've just had. Let's hope the i's & t's get sorted for Sulley. A striker or 2 next please.

paultsmouth its fair to say Muntari will draw more positive attention to the club, i think / hope/ pray that he will be as good as the promise he shows. I understand Viduka is back on the list along with a young french african striker, not sure why the Yak isnt being mentioned though

Like someone said before the 3 red cards in 20 odd games is a slight worry for me - particularly when you see some of the refs we have here, at least poll is now gone... he will be a quality signing and will lead to others arriving... Defoe, I still feel he could be the real big signing we make this summer...

I think we need to hurry up and make this signing. It has been all over the news the last few days and i'm sure he is attracting some attention from other clubs. We need to seal this deal now before the inevitable happens like petrov and carrick.
