Would Titus Bramble be so bad?

Would Titus Bramble be so bad?

Pompey have confirmed the arrival of Sylvain Distin from Man City, which has left us looking very strong in a central defensive area. We are going to add even more to this area with Titus Bramble set to follow him through the gates of Fratton by the end of the week - would his signing really be so bad?

I am not a fan of Bramble's by any means, just hearing the name 'Titus Bramble' makes me shudder but he is a player of undoubted potential - or so they have been telling us for the last 5 years or so, so maybe we should not be so quick to scoff at this highly probable move.

In all fairness to Bramble he has never really played alongside defenders with that much quality really has he? The Newcastle defence has been rocky at best for a good few years now and although Bramble has been the culprit more than once, training, let along playing alongside players the likes of Sol Campbell, Linvoy Primus and Sylvain Distin not to mention working with Harry Redknapp and one of this countries greatest ever central defenders in Tony Adams could maybe yet see the 'quality central defender' we have been told about for years still shine through?

Our central defensive area is starting to look rock solid now and the options of Bramble and Distin as cover for, what I feel is still the best pairing we have in Campbell and Primus feels me with far greater optimism than it ever did Andy O'Brien, Noe Pamarot, Dejan Stefanovic and Djimi Traore having to come in.

If we can bring in a striker, maybe two who will get us 20 goals a season we will be laughing wont we. I still have this sneaky feeling we will be hearing a lot more about Jermain Defoe and Portsmouth Football Club over the summer.

I hope that Distin and Bramble are not being added to cover for Sol's departure, if they are i will not be as confident as i was when i wrote this... Having all four will leave us looking really good in the middle of defence... Viduka and/or Fowler would be good for me but I think if we offer the right money we could see Defoe in a Pompey shirt next season - even more so if Bent goes to Spurs...

Nope! still no convinced about Shamble (see what I did there?). I have watched him so many times & thought hes just not good enough to be in the prem. Would rather give him a miss!

As a Newcastle fan the Campbell stories up here are getting stronger and stronger every day. Bramble isn't an adequate replacement for anyone UNLESS he's playing alongside Sol.

Sol has bought a new property in Hampshire, and says his friend base is in London so would prefer to stay on South Coast. Therefore as this looks like Bramble + Sol, not Bramble in place of Sol... Then i feel confident the pairing would be a good one. No disrespect to Newcastle, but Bramble looked worse than he actually is as he has No other Key Players to work alongside.

Shambles on Tyneside became a lardy, error prone playboy and the fans turned on him. Sure he can look terrible for the most part but, for sure (twitch twitch), his undoubted potential can be drawn out by the combination of a fresh start, HR and TA. Linvoy or Sol would frown on any unsuitable off-field activities and would help bring him on. I'd be pleased to get him on board with Distin and Sol and Linvoy. Without these experienced players as first choice for the meantime I'd hate to throw Shambles str8 into the team but with their help he can come to prove himself, hopefully. I'm still sure big Sol will stay, even more with the team being built round him and these exciting new players there to learn from him.

I just wonder if Bramble was one of those players that got their Big Break too soon. He looked a great prospect at Ipswich and was very highly rated. Sometimes players who get "Dream" moves get them too early in their careers, Crouch for instance didn't exactly set the football world alight after he left us. As happened with Crouch sometimes a further move can take the pressure off them and they get back on track, well thats my theory fingers crossed that if he is coming it will work for him too.
