Sylvain Distin become our first signing of the summer this afternoon as he was unveiled as a free transfer arrival, signing a 3 year contract with the club. The 29 year old joins his former City team mates David James and Andrew Cole, who have also signed for Pompey from City in the past 12 months.
Harry Redknapp has long since been an admirer of Distin's, and along with other managers first made moves for him last summer. Since then it had looked very likely that the Frenchman's time with City was running out - and so it has proved. Former City boss Stuart Pearce even removed the captain's armband from Distin, handing it to Richard Dunne due to his reluctance to sign a new deal.
Distin confirmed his departure from City earlier this week and since then has been heavily linked with Pompey, with it now confirmed he is a Pompey player - with us reported to have fought off a lot of interest to sign the experienced central defender.
It was also hoped that confirmation of the Sulley Muntari deal would be revealed today at the press conference but this has been delayed until later in the week - but this is only due to lose ends being tied up, it is not a cause for concern. Titus Bramble is also expected to be a Pompey player by Sunday.

Pamarot will then be the weakest of the remainder but he has looked comfortable and had improved as time went on, confirming that Harry is the man to get the best out of anyone - which is why I am beginning to feel Bramble will actually prove to be an excellent acquisition, after all he was an extremely good defender until that suit full of bugger all Glenn Roeder got his hands on him. Roeder could not resist taking pot shots at Harry and now if proof be needed, the Master is still in work whilst the Pretender is out of work - serves you right Roeder, now get a job you can be good at, like stacking shelves for TK Maxx!
Going back to our defence though, let's take a look at who we've got on our books, with exception to AOB, Stef and Treore: Linvoy
Sol
Pamarot
Distin
Laurent
So we will need another for cover and of course a decent left back, always supposing Treore isn't considered. It's looking good people, now what we really need is a damned good forward - please Harry, don't rely on Kanu and Benjani, we need a proven goalscorer. the formula is simple - if we score more than the other side, we win! There is no point in having a very strong defence if we cannot put the ball in the net and it will not be fair at all to rely on Kanu - so get a good forward, even Viduka would be a good option.
