Transfer movement at Pompey

Transfer movement at Pompey

Pompey are lining up bids for several players in the coming days and weeks, so it is said - although the move for Sulley Muntari, which would involve our transfer record being smashed into pieces has been ongoing for a while.

Muntari turned out in the weekends charity match organised by Kanu, which further raised expectations that the Ghanaian international will be a Pompey player sooner rather than later. The player's agent is keen, Muntari is keen - he told he Portsmouth News that he has been 'a Pompey fan for a year' and so is Harry Redknapp so all being well this will be concluded soon.

Sylvain Distin and Titus Bramble are both free agents having left Man City and Newcastle respectively and are being heavily linked with Pompey, Bramble being seen as a 'good free transfer signing' by Redknapp. Distin has been a target of Redknapp's since last summer and is likely to arrive shortly.

Young Trinidad & Tobago midfield trio Lester Peltier, Khaleem Hyland and Atullah Guerra have been offered deals by Pompey but work permits are required - we should know one way or the other by next month.

Players will be leaving Pompey though, some I will lose no sleep over, others I certainly would. Andy O'Brien and Collins Mbesuma - how is this guy still contracted to Pompey, have been told they can leave, this does not worry me at all, whilst young star Marc Wilson could go unless he signs the new deal he has been offered - hopefully he will sign it as we do not want another talented youngster moving on too soon.

My major worry is Sol Campbell, Newcastle are being linked more and more and although Redknapp and Pompey are adamant he will not be going anywhere the imminent arrivals of Distin and Bramble are not filling me with too much confidence that we will see him here next season. If they arrived and Sol stayed I would be more than happy - maybe Bramble could even be made into a half decent footballer? If we could keep Sol but it meant that we would miss out on both would this really be so bad? I am not overly convinced by Distin to be honest and we know about Bramble all to well.

Whatever happens Vital Pompey will look to keep you informed.

Also, a press conference has been announced which will take place at Fratton Park today, 11.45 a.m. and will be on QuayFM.

As for Sol - I wouldn't worry too much on that score, the Club have already said he is going nowhere. Don't think I'll shed any tears for AOB going though. Has anyone heard if Kanu was able to renew his contract yet?

Rather keep Sol. Great experience & gives us a lot of cred. Dis will be a good signing too. Sulley should be great once settle. Not sure about Bramble, prefer Wilfred to Titus.

Ljungberg has not quite been the same the last few years but is still a topman... O'Brien has been a role model in terms of not moaning at not playing but isn't a player I will worry about losing too much either, with Mbesuma finally going - why is he still here anyway? - i just hope we've got rid of our job lot of pies... Yep looking forward to the press conference today, Distin is coming and will be a good signing. He isn't the replacement I would like for Sol but having him, Optimus Primus and Bramble and Sol - let's hope he stays, will give us great strength in depth wont it... I really excitted about Munatri's arrival too, this could be announced at this conference also...

Where is Pompeygary!!!?? He used to visit Vital Colchester all the time! Would be great to get him back for the comedy value of his comments. Please!

I quite agree with all of you so far, Muntari & Distin should be great signings! got the anouncment in 10 mins so looking forward to that! seems Harry is going to have a real go at getting some top players this term. All we need now is a couple of top strikers & we look to have a pretty damn good squad!! get in!!
23/05/2007 11:35:00
."..maybe Bramble could even be made into a half decent football?" - Now that is something I'd like to see, or perhaps made into a lampshade?
23/05/2007 11:42:00
Muntari is not afraid to get stuck in is he - his 3 red cards in 20 odd games this season shows this, but he can play can't he. Thought he was really good at the WC... Fingers crossed that expectations aren't being raised again for us to be let down, but I think we will be happy with what we hear at this conference... I still have this feeling we could get Defoe this summer you know...
23/05/2007 11:43:00
We have to live in hope don't we TPB... If Adams stays on, playing and training alongside Sol, Optimus Primus and Distin maybe his potential can finally be tapped into... I see what you mean now, i'll need to make a slight alteration there...
