Premiership round-up (05-09/07/07)

Pompey were spanked 3-0 in our latest Barclays Premiership match with Everton at Goodison, what about the other results.

Saturday, 05/05/07
Aston Villa 3-0 Sheff Utd
The early evening LIVE SKY Sports Prem Plus fixture saw Villa extend their run with a comfortable win against relegation threatened Sheff United. Gabriel Agbonlahor (25), Ashley Young (42) and former Pompey star Patrik Berger (59) with the goals.

Fulham 1-0 Liverpool
Fulham picked up a crucial three points to ease their relegation worries against a much changed Liverpool side through a Clint Dempsey (69) goal.

Man City 0-1 Man Utd
The lunchtime SKY Sports LIVE game saw United move to the brink of the title after victory. Cristiano Ronaldo's (34) penalty deciding this game in the first half. City had a late penalty of their own but Darius Vassell's (80) weakly struck effort was turned away by Edwin Van Der Sar's legs.

Newcastle 0-2 Blackburn
Blackburn kept their impressive run going with a comfortable win in what proved to be Glen Roeder's final game in charge of Newcastle. Benni McCarthy (14) and former Pompey loanee Jason Roberts (73) with the goals.

Reading 0-2 Watford
Pompey's defeat was softened by the very surprising - yet timely - home defeat Reading suffered at the hands of already relegated Watford. Dan Shittu (60) and Marlon King (85) scoring.

West Ham 3-1 Bolton
Our defeat was made even less painful after Bolton's pounding at West Ham. A Carlos Tevez (10 & 21) double had the Hammers in control before Mark Noble (29) added a third to give West Ham a very good chance of avoiding the drop. Gary Speed (67) pulled one back but it wasn't enough.

Wigan 1-0 Middlesbrough
Last season's surprise package Wigan were pushed to the brink of relegation - something I thought might happen this season when the last ended - due to Mark Viduka's (29) goal.

Sunday, 06/05/07
Arsenal 1-1 Chelsea
The Sunday afternoon LIVE SKY Sports offering saw Chelsea needing victory to keep the title race alive. Khalid Boulahrouz's professional foul saw him dismissed and Arsenal awarded a penalty as half time approached, Gilberto Silva (43) made no mistake. The ten men battled and equalised through Michael Essien (70) but it wasn't enough as United claimed the title with two games to spare.

Monday, 07/05/07
Charlton 0-2 Tottenham
Monday nights LIVE SKY Sports game saw Spurs relegate Charlton than to goals from Dimitar Berbatov (7) and Jermain Defoe (90) to put Spurs on the brink of Uefa cup qualification.

Wednesday, 09/05/07
Chelsea 0-0 Man Utd
Wednesday nights LIVE SKY Sports game saw already champions United play out a pretty uneventful 0-0 draw with Chelsea.

No More Quarter Final Replays For Pompey

Should Portsmouth progress through to an FA Cup quarter final from the 2016/17 season onwards, the game will no longer be subject to a replay.

Chesterfield's O'Shea targeted

Although so far Pompey have had two bids turned down for Chesterfield's O'Shea. Will, assuming another bid (as it's expected) is made, it be third time luck for the Blues?

It wasn't Real Madrid but Bristol City isn't bad!

Contrary to what I just wrote (muppet that I am) this isn't at Fratton this is at Ashton Gate with Pompey heading to Bristol City on Saturday 30th July, with a 3pm kick-off.
