Pompey Signings For Next Season

Pompey Signings For Next Season

As the season nears an end, talk is already about who Pompey will sign for the next season. So is there any reason why one possible target should be even considered?

We have been amazed at some of the names Harry Redknapp has brought to this club over the last five years, with Sol Campbell and David James probably the most significant ever. Other inspirational names have been Paul Merson, Tim Sherwood, Steve Stone, Miguel Pedro Mendes, Patrik Berger and of course Teddy Sheringham.

He has of course not been always successful with some of his signings, Ivica Mornar being just one example and some have started brightly but then faded away like Lualua and perhaps Andy Cole. It has to be said though that Harry is not afraid to put his head above the parapet and is always confident in the signings he makes. Which makes it a little difficult to understand why latest news is emerging that he is still hot on the trail of Titus Bramble - hardly the most successful or trustworthy defender, do we really need yet another shaky player at the back when Treore is already giving us more problems than most opposition attacks could ever do?

What we are interested in is your opinion, who you would like to see here at Pompey next season - within reason of course. Harry will not have carte blanche or a bottomless pit of money so let`s assume he will have a maximum purchase budget of £20million. Using that sum, who would you like to see at Fratton Park next season and why. Also, what are your thoughts on Bramble, should we even be thinking about signing him in the first place? Perhaps you would like to give your vote in the poll that is to the lower right of the page?

We need more firepower if we are to build on what has been achieved this season; we also need more cover at the back too. So let us know who you would like to sign and for that matter who you would like to dispose of - any player you think you can raise money on can be added to your £20million budget, but again please be realistic.

Bramble has been consistent I will give the guy that... Consistently crap! Traore came with a reputation and hasn't really helped it too much but he has played for Liverpool, and not just one or two times. He is prone to errors and not one of my favourites but is still young and adds something to the sqaud... Bramble may be young but he has been consistently bad for Newcastle. Andy O'Brien or Titus Bramble? O'Brien wins everytime. Bramble wouldn't threaten Primus' place which is my one worry, that he'll be pushed out so this is a bonus... A proven 15-20 goal man is needed. The guy in the picture, a certain England international who scores goals on debut is a man I would love us to have here, but it looks like Everton have won this race haven't they...

I know he isn't exactly the youngest of players but what about Robbie Fowler... He'll be released by Liverpool in the summer so wouldn't cost anything apart from wages, which will be high but no more than Sol. He is a proven goalscorer who is still doing the business for Liverpool when given a chance...

A pair of div one players i would like at pompey. I would like to pick up Koumas to unlock the defences as having davis and hughsie together in centre mid seems to lack creativity. I would also have a pop for david healy. He is obvoiusly a top player who maybe hasnt had the manager at club level to get best from him.

If Pompey are to push on next season then they need to buy and pay for quality. If we had done this in Jan then I think we would have made a better stab at Europe for this year. For me we need a Right Back, Johnson going back to Chelsea, Pamarot not good enough. Left back, Traore is poor and we need Stefanovic as CB cover. Leighton Baines comes to mind. Midfield we seem to be ok with but it would be nice to have a ball winner available to us. (Muntari?) Strikers we need desparately, like Benjanis work ethic but never going to get 20 goals in a season, Toddy should stay, release Kanu and Lua Lua. Yes Nugent would be nice, but need another yakubu type really. Titus Bramble, no way!

why don't we try and sign Flamini from Arsenal seeing as he's already said he wants out? other potential signings should include Sulley Muntari from udinese, billy sharp from Scunthorpe amongst others. I'll be back when i can think up some more!

i don't want bramble i want nugent/defoe/yakubu

I think striker is the only really burning issue, we have options up front but no-one who looks like smacking in 15+, Toddy doesn't look like he will ever get a real run, Lua even when on fire won't score 1 in 2, Benjani is going to struggle to hit 5 all year, and Kanu looks like he may still go, Nugent would be great, but now he's pulled on the white shirt will command a ridiculous fee, I would like us to go out on a limb for Defoe, he will be expensive, but I think he would jump at the chance of regular football
10/04/2007 20:07:00
Sack LL, Kanu? Bring in Defoe, bring back Yakubu, Tevez if WH get relegated and what about Benayoun with him. After seeing the work ethic on Sunday, what about a cheap Watford player or two?
10/04/2007 20:42:00
WalshwasGod - if you think we have a hope in hell's chance of signing Tevez, Defoe, and Yakubu then good on you! It ain't going to happen. we have to unearth talent at a slightly lower level (Matt Taylor 400k from luton) and bring them on. The politics that Tevez would bring to the club aren't worth the effort. Yakubu isn't coming back and the only way Defoe will be playing at Fratton next season is in an opposition shirt. I see today that Arsenal are looking to offload Senderos who is an intelligent bloke who could easily do a job for us? Lets sort out the strikers though first.

MotM in poor Notts County show...Cambridge next

There wasn't too much to cheer from the Notts County defeat was there, well certainly not the 2nd half at Fratton Park but one plus was seen as Amine Linganzi for Pompey.

Double figure aim for Baker

Goals are in the game of Baker; we've seen this already as the midfielder has scored four for Pompey since his arrival from MK Dons in the summer. His aim is at least 10-goals.
