Todorov Has Earned A Start, Surely!

Svetoslav Todorov started the season with Pompey by doing something that we struggled to do for most the time after he was shipped off on loan to Wigan, especially since the turn of the year - SCORING GOALS! You cannot say he would have kept scoring as maybe he wouldn't but the poacher and Todorov is just that a poacher, couldn't have done any worse than those left behind.

Thankfully Todorov returned in January and although the chances of seeing him pull on a Pompey shirt again (other than in the reserves) were slim, after the mercenary that is Andrew Cole left to join Birmingham on loan - the man brought in to replace Todorov, the emotional, if not sentimental site of Todorov not only pulling on a Pompey shirt but taking the field was once again witnessed against Fulham on Saturday.

I am not opposed to Kanu, if he stay and the price and terms are right for Pompey so be it, if he goes if this is best for Pompey, again so be it, but in his ten minutes on the field Todorov showed more than Kanu had in the previous 80! Todorov wanted to play for the shirt, the fans and the club, not that I am suggesting Kanu didn't or doesn't, that's for others to decide. If only Todorov could have crowned his glorious return with a goal. Had it not been for scummer Niemi in the Fulham goal, who was almost as good as James, he would have.

After this ten minute cameo Todorov must have earned a start against United next weekend, if not United surely Watford the Monday after?

Just a quick note on Niko Kranjcar also, what a cracking goal, something out of almost nothing springs to mind. In his recent performances he has shown more than a glimpse or two as to why it is so important that he is kept and not discarded too soon. Without a run of games he couldn't be judged, with this he can.

PLAY UP POMPEY!

cracking goal by Kranjcar!
merlin
Kranjcar's goal was something else wasn't it merlin... I really do hope that Toddy can get a chance and is worth a start against United next week, what do we have to lose...
pompeyrug
krunchy took his goal superbly, he can only get better, he must stay and not be allowed to do a d'allesandro, as for toddy the fans showed what they thought of him long before ge came on
paultsmouth
Now we have shipped Cole on, Toddy is one of the 4 again. Go Toddy go.

Get Toddy back in the team!! What he did in just 10 mins shows his determination. He has hunger and fire in his belly!!!!
tommo3146
surely a hungry striker with a point to prove is more worthy than one who thinks he has already made his point, Kanu has been great this season, but since xmas has tailed off and obviously thinks he is worthy of greater things
paultsmouth
I fully agree! He needs to stop moaning about a two year!
tommo3146
--deal.
tommo3146
If this season is good evidence, he is only good for six months anyway!
paultsmouth
Yeah and the other six months is spent moaning and travelling to and from London. HaHa...
tommo3146
Hey paultsmouth don't you think I should have got part credit for the current poll... Get Toddy on, give him a start against United and lets see how we go...
pompeyrug
There is absolutely no doubt whatsoever that Toddy should start against Manure. Kanu should not even be on the bench, he has had his chance and has proved beyond any doubt whatsoever that his time as a goalscorer with us was just a flash in the pan. He was not prolific at Arsenal, he was not even scoring at the Baggies - so that really should say it all and to keep him in the squad is using up a valuable space when we have Toddy, Benji, Lualua and even Niko to play up front. Wake up Harry, stop kidding yourself - 'cos you are certainly not fooling us! As a certain politician once said - "You can fool some of the people some of the time - but you can't fool all of the people all of the time."

I'm still undecided on Kanu, just want whatever happens to be in Pompey's best interests not Kanu's... One man can't carry the can for everyone though can he, it's a team effort not simply a Kanu effort... The question of him being a goalscorer should never come up, he isn't that, his record shows this. To have got the amount we have has been amazing... Kanu isn't the only one who has been poor since Chritsmas...
pompeyrug
Its not always the team either, yes when they cross that white line its up to them but on occasions i do question Harrys decisions, the players in the starting line ups, the positions they play especially when they play out of position!! and most importantly the playing mentality - why the hell do we sit back and invite teams on all the time?? as history shows more often than none the other team score's as all we do is boot it up to the half way line and it come's straight back!! WHY WHY WHY!!!
tommo3146
I can't answer this one mate, it gets me also... When we play the fast moving, fast paced passing football we look good enough to beat anyone. Far too often 'arry seems more concerned with not losing that he forgets about winning, then we lose anyway... He's in an unfamiliar position himself with Pompey isn't he so maybe he's not sure how to deal with it... We will learn from this season and push on from it in the next, then the next, then the next providing he stays...
pompeyrug
If i was harry i would keep Kanu he is brill at scoring goals in the first half of the season after that his energy runs out and i think harry new that. We even where top of the prem for one week i think in stead of hours last season. So the next game against Man u you will see at the start two attackers Toddy and the other guy Lou ar lou ar Sorry mate if you r reading this i promise i will spell it correctly WHEN U SCORE AGAINST MAN U
stevefromireland
Hi stevefromireland, I can see your point about Kanu - but can we really afford to pay a player a full season's salary for what amounts to less than a third of a season's performance? Furthermore, there are many players who have pulled on a Pompey shirt and accepted that they may not always be first choice, even though many of us would prefer to have seen them playing regularly - but none of them started having a hissy fit if they weren't offered a longer contract.

As for Lualua, I truly hope he does score on Saturday, his contribution has been sorely missed this season and he is such a talented player. He's a little frustrating at times but we all know he can unlock any defence in the blink of an eye when he applies himself.
TruePompeyBlue
Let Sveto have a go, it can't hurt, in fact there have been times this season when, if that stupid Frog thing had bought his boots, he could have ousted Cole from the starting eleven.
Et_tu_Pompeii
Again you have a good point Et_tu_Pompeii, isn't it about time we got rid of that damned stupid bloody frog too?? We shipped out one useless frog last season and sent him packing, surely it's high time we did it again?? Our mascot is one of the most stupid I have seen! What has it got to do with Pompey? Frogmore Road, that's the only blasted connection!!
